For those of you saying "China's demand has increased", eg....What does that have to do with anything?

 

The point of the matter is this:

 

We are by far the biggest oil/energy hogs in the world. It doesn't matter what happens in the rest of the world if our demand is ever-increasing. We can't keep increasing our demand and blame it on another country's increased demand. We don't have sole proprietary rights to cheap fuel! Americans need to quit looking for someone to blame, and work to attack the root of the problem.....

 

To me, that's the most annoying thing about Americans as a whole. Everyone wants to find a solution for any issue that doesn't involve personal change or sacrifice. No one is willing to strip away the layers to take a harsh look at the real problems and take care of them, even if it hurts. Solving a problem ain't always fun. Most often, it hurts before we see the benefits.

 

I agree with a lot of what you say, although I don't mind nor complain about the gas prices. I like the standard of living that I have and if that means I have to pay a higher price for gas, so be it. Seems like a lot if not most Americans agree with me, as they seems to not be cutting back on their consumption.

I guess I feel this way:

 

If that's the standard of living one chooses, then one must understand that there's a price to pay for it, and shouldn't complain. That's not directed at those who don't complain, but at those who do complain, but make no changes. It just makes no sense to me to complain and rail so bitterly, and blame so many other factors, when really, it's within one's own power to help solve the issue.

Still, LBBC, how can we complain that another country's increasing demand is causing us to "suffer". The fact is the supply isn't infinite, the US demand isn't decreasing, and Americans seem to feel they're entitled to lower energy costs because....??? How can US consumers complain unless they're seriously trying to take steps themselves to reduce demand?

 

My point isn't that China is increasing the demand, but that US consumers are as well.

True, but US consumption is up 3% and we use more than 10 times the amount of oil as the closest country.

I thought that India and China used more than us.'
