May 29, 200719 yr I have gotten the urge to buy a boat lately. I am wanting to purchase some sort of a ski boat such as maybe a Mastercraft, Sea Ray, etc. I was wondering if anyone knew of any used marine craft dealers in Eastern/Central KY or what the best way to go about finding a boat to purchase would be??? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!
May 29, 200719 yr The quote I've always heard is "the two happiest days of my life were when I bought my boat and then when I sold my boat."
May 29, 200719 yr Go to Somerset, purchase a Baja Islander, Sport, or any other line they make and you'll definitely not regret it. The people there provide good service, and the Baja brand is a great boat in my opinion.
May 29, 200719 yr I agree that the Somerset area is a great place to shop boats. If you know someone who knows boats I would not be afraid to look at used boats. Many used boats were purchased by people who quickly found out they have neither the time nor the money to keep the boat. These boats have low hours and you can save quite a bit.

Definitely...used is the way to go. And certain brands like Baja, Crown Line, Donzi, etc., hold there resale value very well after the initial purchase.

May 29, 200719 yr Make sure if you do, that you get insurance for watercraft liability on the boat. It usually is less than $100 a year for $100,000 in protection...you might have known, but just thought I'd add my 2 cents, it's usually worth less than that!
May 29, 200719 yr I'd love a boat, but thinking about the cost of gas for not only the boat, but for the tow vehicle, I think I'll just urge my buddies to buy one.
May 29, 200719 yr If it floats or flies, rent it don't buy it. Yes, I'm moderately adjusting the "old saying."

It's cheap for the protection you get.

May 29, 200719 yr A little bit...The Donzi is probably the only one that is really up their on a resale price. I've seen great Crown Lines and Bajas aywhere from 15-25K. That may sound like a lot for a used boat, but when you decide to sell you'll get a lot of your money back.

These boats hold their value fairly well! The insurance advice was also greatly appreciated! In all honesty it hadn't even crossed my mind! :thumb:

In all honesty it hadn't even crossed my mind! :thumb: It's kind of like the difference between buying a Harley Davidson or a Honda motorcycle. The initial costs on buying the Honda is definitely cheaper, but you are almost investing money when you buy the HD. That isn't as true as it used to be. Harley Davidson has flooded the market since its popularity has risen, and the value on the resale isn't as high as it used to be. But at one time a bank president told me he'd finance people quicker when buying a Harley than he would the same person buying a home. Anyway, I look at boats by using the same comparison, and I know a few guys who have made money on plenty of used boats.
May 29, 200719 yr Boats.com is a great resource to compare prices and models. Also Yachtworld.com is loaded with info.
