Watusi Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 In the "where do we go from here" category, I have a question. In your opinion, how much does the negative image portrayed of UK fans influence potential recruits? UK has all the positives a recruit looks for, but there is some baggage, especially when the fan base is considered. Granted, some of it is blown up in the media and probably given too much press. But it is what it is and the perception is there that we have a radical, unethical, medling fan base that is power hungry and unforgiving. If you are a recruit, or the parent of a recruit, does it make you take a step back and reconsider?

If your kid was being recruited, wouldn't the thought go through your head? In the end, maybe it doesn't factor, but the thought must be there.
98NCCalum Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 82% of us are really nice people.

If you are a recruit, or the parent of a recruit, does it make you take a step back and reconsider? :thumb: I am with you 100%. I am one who firmly believes that our fan base hurts us. I know that there are a lot who don't think that, but they need to wake up. Some of our fans need an education on the dos and dont's of recruiting. Just like Gametime said in another thread, we that know better need to help educate the ones who don't. We should just not ignore it, because it will not go away.
Hasbeen Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Just like Gametime said in another thread, we that know better need to help educate the ones who don't. How do you educate this type of person? It's illegal to beat 'em and withholding food is considered cruel.

Difficult to do since most of the 18% are on the lower end of the Bell curve and believe they are on the high end.
Log Mountain Boy Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Kentucky fans are absolutely great, but because there is so many of us then that means more idiots as well. I don't think it really hurts per say, but fans arent really being an advantage right now.
98NCCalum Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 The problem comes in when "fans" become "fanatics". We all know there are fanatics of every school, but UK seems to have more of them.

I believe it is because we have more fans. There is no pro team in the state, so aside from Louisville the rest of the state is mostly UK fans.
Watusi Posted May 15, 2007 Author Posted May 15, 2007 It exists. We have more than our fair share of crazies. But my question is not about whether it exists, or why it does or doesn't. What I want to know is your thoughts on how that negative fan image affects recruits and their evaluation of where (if ) they fit in at UK.

That's hilarious.
Original Rookie Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 At times I am ashamed to be part of our fan base. I do think there are plenty of other programs that have fans just as crazy but we don't here about it as much because most of us live in or near Kentucky and UK fans are by far the most outspoken in this region.
