Word is Ryle is rolling on to a big victory

Ryle wins the JV Regional Championship today in convincing fashion, defeating Cov Cath 17-7 in 5 innings. Ryle's hitting attack was absolutely brutal today, at one point hammering (and I mean every single one was hammered) out 8 straight hits in an 11-run 4th inning. Cov Cath actually hit the ball quite well themselves, including a mammoth HR by Sainola (sp?), but Ryle just had a bit too much firepower. Best guess is that Ryle had 20 hits or so, including their own long HR, off 6 or 7 different CC pitchers. This was Ryle's 5th win this year over the CC JV team. Ryle JV finishes the year with a 14-game winning streak, a school-record 26 wins and a 26-3 overall record. The core of this team will move up to varsity next year and no doubt contribute up there. However, there are several freshman that will remain on the JV team next year and team up with numerous players from this year's very solid freshman team to make a good 2008 JV squad. Congrats to Ryle on their impressive season and 2007 championship, as well as to Cov Cath on their runner-up finish. No doubt they also will have a very strong 2008 JV squad.

Turkeyfoot's field is looking really nice this year and they have a really nice concession stand. They are serving lots of hot food along with a large varity of snacks and drinks.We have been to several games their and they have an announcer as well.I think it will be a great place to have the championship! Good luck to both teams.

 

Yes, it was clear that Dixie indeed put in a real effort for this game. The field looked terrific, the grill was working overtime, and it was nice having an announcer. Wasn't quite enough space to accommodate all the fans (SRO crowd) and missed not having a scoreboard, but it was a pleasant atmosphere on a gorgeous afternoon. Look forward to seeing Dixie's new place next year!

Congrats to Ryle J.V. players and coach Jim Demler. He keeps showing up year after year with a competitive team. Good Job Raiders !!!

I think the 2004 JV team won their tournament as well and only had 1 loss for the season. That was with the freshmen who are seniors now. None the less, Coach Demler has had great success with both of those groups of kids.

26 wins at the JV level would make it hard to argue that point. Looks like they're loaded to continue the varsity success. Congratulations to the boys!

Who were the three loses this year for Ryle JV??

Ryle lost twice early in the year, once on the back end of a DH to Anderson (OH) H.S. by score of 5-4 and then to Bishop Brossant by score of 9-6. They reeled off about 10 straight wins before being soundly beaten by Dixie 7-1. They then ran off another 14 straight wins to finish the season. 5 wins over CovCath was impressive, as 3 of them were blowouts. We did have some tough wins over Campbell County, who I personally considered the next best team we saw all season (no offense to anyone else).

 

Not familiar enough with high school ball over the past ten years to make any special claims about this team. In fact, some of this year's sophomores - whose set the school JV team record for wins last year as freshman - think last year's team may have been better, as it was apparently deeper in pitching. I must say that the thing that was most impressive about this team is that they executed all phases of the game - they pitched well, ran the bases well, hit very well, and their defense was outstanding. They gave away very few unearned runs this entire season (best guess, a grand total of 10 unearned runs in 29 games).

 

The team was also very deep. Their backup players were all legitimate players that would have started for most other JV teams. That is not meant to take anything away from Coach Demler - a class guy who did a rock solid job. But I'm sure even he would agree that he was dealt a pretty nice hand with this team. Lastly, it was a neat group of boys that got along well. Several of the "backups" were quality ballplayers who surely didn't get as much time as they would have liked due to the players ahead of them. But I never heard any griping or backstabbing and they all seemed to be good friends.

 

Hopefully this all bodes well for the future of Ryle's varsity team, who loses a ton of senior talent after this year. However, it would appear that there remains some replacement talent in the well for the next few years, at a minimum.

Lastly, it was a neat group of boys that got along well. Several of the "backups" were quality ballplayers who surely didn't get as much time as they would have liked due to the players ahead of them. But I never heard any griping or backstabbing and they all seemed to be good friends.

 

That is great to hear Cooperstown as it doesn't happen much these days. It sure seems they should be very competitive next year with a chance for them to go far when they are seniors.
