This want go over well but I feel that mankind would be better served to have a world view and less of a country view.

I believe God wants us to be concerned about all people on this planet we called Earth and less concerned about the country called USA.

AMEN :ylsuper:

You are probably disappointed that I will be one of the few it goes overwith well.;)

It is not that I defend the breaking of law, but I do not see this as a blight on society as many do.

At this point in our history, there are many more positives that come from people crossing the border than there are negatives. Instead of trying to figure out how to take 12 million (some say really over 20 million) people out of the economy and destroying families, why are we not trying to find out how we can fix it without hurting the overall economy. We actually need to let more in to replace the retiring baby boomers.

My buddy uses that threat of terrorism, but I am very curious to know how many illegal immigrants have committed an act of terrorism against the United States? It is my understanding that they come to American for a better opportunity - not because they hate our way of life.

Thats easy to say when you are so far removed from the border. I have spent a great deal of time on the border and was just there all of last week in fact. I have numerous relatives in the El Paso area, and believe me illegal immigration is a huge problem. The area has changed significantly since the time when my Mother grew up there, largely in part to the increasing numbers of illegals coming across. The type of people coming across is different as well, while it was once predominately Mexicans, now well organized networks are provided passage for people from well down in Central and South America.

The regions suffers greatly due to the high crime rates and amount of drug trafficing. Some of the smaller towns revolve almost exclusively around the drug trade. Most of my relatives in this area have had their homes broken into and multiple vehicles stolen. My cousin just had his truck stolen from the parking lot of his high school. There are areas in which I could take you and if you didn't know any better you would not believe that you are in the United States. Private schools are the only way to ensure that all of your childs teachers will be able (and willing) to use English in the classroom.

Schools are not allowed to try to determine if a student is legal or not. As a result they constantly face overcrowding from an influx of students. Since most of the illegals are not paying taxes, they aren't receiving the proper funding to build new schools. As a result property taxes are skyrocketing. The are building new schools as fast as possible but even then they are bring in mobile classrooms to use at the new schools upon completion of constructions. The new schools end up being overcrowed from day one.

And they do not like our way of life. For the most part they do as little as possible to assimilate into the mainstream American way of life. Racism is very rampant in this area, however, the tables are turned, Non-Hispanic people are in the minority. My cousins pretty much have to go to a private schools to avoid being taunted and beaten up simply because they are white. I am told that it is not uncommon to be refused service from a salesperson at the mall, until they have helped all of the Hispanic patorns, even if you were in line first. It can even be difficult to order food at a restaurant (even an American institution such as McDonalds) if you no habla Espanol.

Some of these negatives are definitely the result of the immigration itself, but many are the result of poor policy. My in-laws live in WACO and their economy rests on the backs of the immigrants

Waco is over 600 miles from El Paso and probably about 350 miles from any point on the Mexican border, hardly a comparable situation.

While most if not all of the major cities in Texas are heavily Hispanic, that doesn't mean that they suffer the same problems that the border cities do such as El Paso, Laredo, and Brownsville. Sure they reap the benefits of cheap labor, but actually spend some time on the border and I think your eyes will be opened to the problems that are present.

I would have bet the pinkie toe on my left foot that you would have agreed with me.

I would say then that our law flies in the face of this quote from Leviticus. Amazing how this conservative Christian board can just ignore the TRUTH. It is right there in black and white.

BTW way do we have restrictions on the numbers of people crossing our southern border. Without immigration (both legal and illegal) our population is in decline. We are not replacing the baby boomers in the workforce, and our economy is going to be strained (not to mention the # of people we don't have paying into the SSI). We have low unemployment in this country now (watch neil cavuto on FOX) so the hispanics are not taking jobs away from Americans, they are actually filling in where we don't have the numbers.

How are they ignoring the truth, because their review and interpretation of scripture casts doubt on the validity of your arguement?

This is not an issue of discriminating against latinos, it is an issue of security. We have no way of knowing who is crossing our borders nor what their intent is when they cross illegally whether they are Hispanic, Arab, Caucasin, etc. They could be criminals, drug runners, terrorists, etc. and we would have no idea. Not saying they couldn't slip through with falsified papers, but it would make it more difficult and allow more ways to catch those intent on doing harm.

Because often times (maybe most) when talking about scripture on this board there is general consensus that you should have a literal reading not one based on review and interpretation.

I think that the concern is immigrants from Mexico and Latin American countries. None of the 9/11 hijackers were of that descent.

Also, I will sound like a broken record here, as I ask this question every time there is an immigration thread, but what are the legal steps for gaining citizenship into our country? Do we have a quota or cap limit?

It is all fine and well for us to say that they should go through the legal process for becoming a citizen. I don't know exactly what that process is. I can't say that if the process is arduous and is likely to be rejected AND if my concern was the livelihood of my family and their upbringing, that I wouldn't enter illegally also.

The question was posed how many illegals have committed acts of terrorism in the United states, I answered. No where in the question did I see it limited to Latinos.

As to the process of becoming a citizen I honestly don't know but I do know that my ancestors (4 generations ago) knew because they did do it legally. Quite honestly I don't care what the process is and I also really don't care how hard it is. Those that aren't following it are breaking the law, they know they are breaking the law and should be deported.

Ace, Pickin and choosing again I see. Why don't you quote some more of Leviticus. How about using the famous verses in chapter 19 if you are going to this book. The old law has been done away with, we are under a new Law.

Chapter 18:22...lets talk about that verse.

I don't think that this is the case at all. I know it is not the case with me. I have said more then once that the Bible can and has been intrepretted to make just about anything justifyable. Take the loons from Westboro Baptist for example.

LBBC, if you believe that we should try to achieve a more "global" attitude I have to ask this. According to Revelation isn't a "One World Government" part of the so called end times?

Then, if that is the fear, we should not let anyone in b/c those that have perpetrated terrorism on our soil have come in legally.

Not only that, we should kick all radical, fundamentalist religious people out b/c they are the ones who have perpetrated the most domestic terrorism. Tim McVeigh, David Koresh, Jim Jones, (Ruby Ridge), etc

Because often times (maybe most) when talking about scripture on this board there is general consensus that you should have a literal reading not one based on review and interpretation.

In the link I posted, they put the scripture quoted into context, descibing the state of affairs when it was written. That is more about gaining understanding than just interpretation. And as for myself, I do not believe in a strict, literal view of the bible. You are using one verse from Old Testament scripture, I provided a couple of examples in New Testament teachings that go against your statement.

I believe God wants us to love our neighbors regardless of ethnicity, sinner/saint, etc. However, he also tells us to obey the laws of the land. How exactly is enforcing immigration law not following God's command? Just because I want an immigrant to go through proper channels to enter our land legally doesn't mean I do not respect him or have Christian love for him nor does it mean I do not feel empathy for him and his situation. It simply means I wish he would respect my country and its laws the same way I respect him.
