Immigration policy

Then, if that is the fear, we should not let anyone in b/c those that have perpetrated terrorism on our soil have come in legally.

Not only that, we should kick all radical, fundamentalist religious people out b/c they are the ones who have perpetrated the most domestic terrorism. Tim McVeigh, David Koresh, Jim Jones, (Ruby Ridge), etc

Did you even read the last line of my post??? Your arguement sounds more emotional than logical...

I would say that yours is more emotional, based on fear. The simple fact, those who wish to do us harm, will. A we have become intent on villifying 12 million people, most of who are contributing to our society.

Ace, Pickin and choosing again I see. Why don't you quote some more of Leviticus. How about using the famous verses in chapter 19 if you are going to this book. The old law has been done away with, we are under a new Law.

Chapter 18:22...lets talk about that verse.

Are you suggesting that all illegal immigrants are gay men??

I have come not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it.

Mr. Larry, you are simply ignoring again. I pick you ignore, it is a fun game we play.

In the link I posted, they put the scripture quoted into context, descibing the state of affairs when it was written. That is more about gaining understanding than just interpretation. And as for myself, I do not believe in a strict, literal view of the bible. You are using one verse from Old Testament scripture, I provided a couple of examples in New Testament teachings that go against your statement.

I believe God wants us to love our neighbors regardless of ethnicity, sinner/saint, etc. However, he also tells us to obey the laws of the land. How exactly is enforcing immigration law not following God's command? Just because I want an immigrant to go through proper channels to enter our land legally doesn't mean I do not respect him or have Christian love for him nor does it mean I do not feel empathy for him and his situation. It simply means I wish he would respect my country and its laws the same way I respect him.

you mean like the Jim Crow laws, and the slavery laws - oh that's right we became more enlightened and changed those laws. I guess if we are to go with your way of thinking then the little old lady from Alabama would still be in jail for not giving up her seat and I should be put in jail every time I walk down the street with ice cream in my back pocket (KY has some kind of silly law like that), women, minorities and people under the age of 21 should not be allowed to vote and we should not be selling alcohol anywhere?

So Ace should American immigration laws be enforced or not? Better yet does America have a right to enforce their immigration laws? Does any country have a right to enforce their borders?

The 12 million people that you speak of have villified themselves by ignoring our laws.

It would appear that I am advocating changing the immigration law.

Do you think Rosa Parks should have gone to jail?

Yes, she violated the law as it stood. Where would you draw the line as to which laws to enforce? Is any law that is absurd and/or unjust in your view subject to being ignored? Ghandi willfully violated laws as they stood and went to jail to point out the injustice those laws represented and as such illustrated the need for change.

Maybe someday immigration laws will be changed, until then all illegal immigrants are by definition criminals and they should be jailed and deported.

Are we picking and choosing the laws that we want to enforce?

I drove 60 mph in a 55 mph zone on the way to work today. I also used to buy cigarettes under the age of 18 (a long time ago!). As a result, I will not "cast the first stone" and certainly will not do so toward parents that are trying to provide their children a better life.

I not a big "W" supporter, but I like the feel of his "guest worker" pass. Granted, I may be missing some of the underlying workings of it, but why do more people not support this?

A) The law is obviously impossible to enforce when we have between 12 and 23 MILLION violators that are not paying a penalty

B) If the ship is sinking it might be time to quit bailing and get on another ship (whatever that means - you get my point)

C) The law needs to be changed and though I hate to admit it I think Bush may be on target on this one.

I could live with Bush's porposal IF:

The borders are secured so that after this amnesty we don't have another influx of illegals we have to worry about in 20 years.

Any illegal that commits any crime is deported. And yes I do mean any crime.

The immigrants at least try to assimilate to our society and not demand that we make changes to make it easier for them. That means learn the language.

Not going to happen. Most have very little desire to adapt to the American way of life. They would prefer to make the United States more like Mexico, with the exception of a legitimate government.

LBBC, if you believe that we should try to achieve a more "global" attitude I have to ask this. According to Revelation isn't a "One World Government" part of the so called end times?

YEP!

And I would not be for a World Government. Countries and their citizens should be as concerned about the goings around the world as they are in their own country.

Loss of life due to a tsunami in an Asia country is as tragic as loss of life due to a hurricane in Louisiana. No difference. Starving children in Los Angeles is as tragic as staring children in Africa. No difference.

Us complaining about immigrants coming to this country because of poor living conditions for their families to live in while we are complaining about the price of gas that we put into our SUV with the DVD player and air conditioner that gets 15 MPG is not what I think God expects from us.

Is there only one "American way of life"?

The illegal immigrants that I have met have been good people. They work and support their families and are pleasant to be around. I even know of some that tried to go to our courthouse and pay taxes, but were denied.

There are major problems with immigration that needs to be solved. But I don't believe in turning my back on people that need my help.

Assuming that your courthouse is located within a Kentucky county, again you are seeing a very different picture of immigration. Those that make it this far north mostly do not cause problems. Go spend a summer on the border and you will likely have a different view of the problems that illegal immigration is causing. Criminal activity is extremely high. Drug cartels are present as are numerous gangs. Many who are brought up from South America via the criminal organizations are forced to work as slaves or prostitutes to pay the fee for their transportation and entry into the states.

If you do not live on the border, you absolutely have no idea how bad the situation with illegal immigration has become.

That may be the case, Strike1, but I do not think it is fair to lump all "illegals" into one stereotypical group. As said, I am aware that problems exist AND that something needs to be done about it (I mentioned being in favor of W's "guest worker" policy), but I am also aware of problems that some of these people have and why they want to come to our country.
