One thing I'd like to see is the number of illegals whose families still live in Mexico. Under the table pay is much the same, however one difference that comes to mind, I may be way off here, is that the illegals, especially those on the boarder, are taking their income back into Mexico to provide for their families.

So you guys that are all for illegal immigration...you support the fact that they don't pay taxes?....support the fact that they take jobs from legal immigrants and American citizens?

 

If you want to allow illegal immigration, fine, but treat them the same way, make them pay taxes, etc....

Let me saythis on this thread yet again. There are multiple problems presented with the influx of illegal immigrants from Mexico. However, many of these people are coming to our country to find a better life for themselves and their family. Given the opportunity, they would gladly pay taxes - some try to already. As a country, we need to find ways to allow those that fit in this category to be able to be part of our country. We cannot have completely unsecured borders with people coming and going at will. Yet, as human beings (and for some of us, as Christians) we need to help our fellow man...and allow him to better himself.

Please explain how "I" would be doing this. Additionally, how many legal Mexican immigrants are there? What is the necessary process (and cost) for a poor Mexican family to become American citizens?

As far as finding them ways to be apart of our country....we have those....It's called becoming a legal immigrant. Now I have no idea how much it costs to do so, but the avenues are there.

Just as those who are crossing the border now, are finding their way. Some who came across sold themselves as indentured servants, and some are doing that now.

 

What is arduous in a depressed country is coming up with cash to pay the lawyers to make sure you do it legally.

I would encourage a certain group of residents at a Westboro church to do the same going the opposite way.

you mean like the Jim Crow laws, and the slavery laws - oh that's right we became more enlightened and changed those laws. I guess if we are to go with your way of thinking then the little old lady from Alabama would still be in jail for not giving up her seat and I should be put in jail every time I walk down the street with ice cream in my back pocket (KY has some kind of silly law like that), women, minorities and people under the age of 21 should not be allowed to vote and we should not be selling alcohol anywhere?

 

So because I would like immigrants to respect the laws of my country I am a bigot, against women's sufferage and for prohibition of alcohol? Way to be obtuse and try to compare apples to oranges. I do not see how requiring immigrants to be properly processed is either out of fear. If I, along with MANY others, feel it is best for those coming into our country to have gone through a screening process it is because I want to make it as easy as possible for my government to protect the country from outside threats.

 

I am amazed at the rather judgmental tone taken by supporters of illegal immigrants as it seems they are using the liberal tactic that if you don't support our social programs you are just a bad person. As I said in the post you quoted above, just because I want an immigrant to go through proper channels to enter our land legally doesn't mean I do not respect him or have Christian love for him nor does it mean I do not feel empathy for him and his situation.

Exactly, the Mexican governemnt is refusing to fix its problems and deal with their own. Their solution is to encourage there citizens to cross the border in any way possible to be taken care of by the liberal US government.

 

Another issue is the large number of muslim extremists in Central and South America who could easily enter this country to engage in terrorist activities. The desire for our government to secure the borders is not born out of fear but out of the desire to minimize opportunities for these groups to inflict damage to our people. Buildings can be rebuilt, the damage done to families and loved ones of the dead of 9/11 is still being felt and always will be.

No judgment meant, hard to decipher tone in writing. My point was that if we simply say, well this is the law I have to abide by it, and it is never challenged, then it will never be changed. Most people are pushed to make changes, they don't randomly make the changes themselves.

 

i never said you were against those things . . . but someone at some point had to challenge the law, even if it meant breaking it, before we could have reform.

 

Can you clearly defend the immigration process if you can't clearly define it. TB&G has asked several times about the process and cost and no one can say what it is yet, we defend it as being good. Why? B/c the government says it is good?
