Todd McShay, ESPN, 2008 top picks; NFL Draft

Featured Replies

ESPN's Todd McShay's early look at the NFL Draft had Brian Brohm as the overall #1 pick.

It is on the Insider's Page on ESPN.

Other notables...

The #2 QB out there? Andre Woodson, who was picked as the 7th best overall prospect.

Kennan Burton was selected 4th best WR in the group and TE Jacob Tamme was selected 4th best TE.

Some positive pub for the UK guys.

Brian Brohm, if he stays healthy, has the pub and did have the offense to show case his talents. He will be a high pick. Overall, depends on who chooses and who blows up this year. Demarcus Russell was not projected 1st overall until later this past season.

Demarcus? I think you mean JAMARCUS. Brohm will be the first QB taken easily. It depends on who has the first pick if he is taken #1. They might not need a QB.

Lot can happen in a year. Just ask Matt Leinart

Or Brady Quinn.

I think if Andre has a similar season to last year, and Brohm does the same...we may be talking about Andre as the #1 ranked QB. Who knows?

Some of the UofL fans are going to frown upon that statement, but in many ways I do agree. The NFL Draft has become more about drafting bigger, faster, stronger freak athletes then guys who are a little smaller or slower but have proven they are winners. Woodson has a wind up motion but has the size that the NFL loves.

The top 5 QB prospects (Brohm, Brennan, Booty, Henne, Woodson) for the NFL Draft next season are only an individual workout, 40 dash, or an injury away from going 1st overall to dropping to the 3rd round.....

Nope. Brohm has proven to be a winner since the day he stepped on a football field...with a crazy high wonderlic, and that...he will stay ahead of Andre, and I am not knocking Andre.

When provided with a good opportunity, Andre has been fantastic. He has all of the tools to be a pro quarter back and if he has another year similar to last year, he'll be fighting with Brohm for the #1 ranked QB. The "projected" #1 isn't always the #1. *See Brady Quinn.

^ Brian is smarter than Brady....has made a name for himself at both levels so far....but also is not too naive to see that being a fanatic in the weight room, is not good for touch and accuracy....

I like Andre, I have been watching him for the better part of a decade....Brian has the leg up....and for better or worse, will be in more high exposure games, do to a better winning percentage...UK's schedule is too darned brutal for Andre to mirror last season....it is a suicidal schedule for a QB, at any level.

I, unlike you, am not already going to count Andre out. I still believe with the talent he has around him, he can have a great year. He is returning Keenan Burton, Rafael Little, Tony Dixon, Jacob Tamme, D. Ford, Dicky Lyons Jr. He has more than enough weapons and could very well have as good of a year as last season.

UK's offensive attack isn't sneaking up on anyone, this year. Defenses will respect UK's weapons.

You think Clemson didn't respect UK's weapons? You think towards the end of the season teams hadn't caught on that Uk had weapons? Teams respected UK last season. The whole "respect" theory is garbage...when I played football we were taught to respect each and every offense we played regardless of how good they had been.

Yeah, but is slower than Brohm. I've been watching both of them play football for a while, and Brohm is faster. And he has the workout 40 times to show it, too.

Brohm is plenty big for an NFL QB. Plenty. We aren't talking about Stefan LeFors here. He's the same height as Tom Brady (6'4".) How many 'freak' athletes at QB have rings in the past 10 years? Now, how many students of the game and pure passers have rings?

Last 10 Superbowl winning QBs:

John Elway

John Elway

Kurt Warner

Trent Dilfer

Tom Brady

Brad Johnson

Tom Brady

Tom Brady

Ben Roethlisberger

Peyton Manning

When the best freak athlete you can find on that list is Big Ben (who even his most ardent supporter isn't going to crown the MVP of the 2005-06 Steelers) it might be time to re-evaluate what you think teams are looking for in a QB.
