I highly disagree. Petrino was able to bring his team from behind to win on Mr. Beaumont's home field. Besides being a leader, he got the job done for 2 years with a complex offense. Beaumont has some skills but has not been exposed to complex offensive nor defensive schemes. Lord knows what type of numbers Petrino would of put up if he started four years.

 

But hasn't Trinity done this recently and won the last what, 6 out of 7 or 8 state championships. The qb position at Trinity is not to be taken for granted, but they do an outstanding job with first year starters, probably the best in the country. Petrino came from behind because Beaumont was Male's bread and butter against top teams, and he had to play both ways. Petrino got to rest on D along with the rest of his offense. Stein will do fine in replacing Petrino, maybe even win state. Think he may be faster. Will the guy replacing Beaumont be at least all district?

I just cant see how anyone can put a team above the Rocks.... Until someone takes them out, they are NO. 1. I think St. X and Male have a long way to go to better Trinity this year. Great discussion topic come November.... Thats when the report cards are handed out......

 

As an X fan, I'd have to agree. I know I'm new to Louisville, but until someone beats them when it counts, they deserve to be #1.

I always try to make it to 3 or 4 scrimmages and practices before I make any predictions.

Nobody seems to be talking about the leadership and character of the players, especially the rising seniors. How well will they step up and assume these roles? This, to my way of thinking, is vitally important. I agree with Xtiger69 to the extent that it is hard to gauge a team, for tangibles and intangibles, until they have had some action under their belt.

As all teams graduate their Seniors and move up the Juniors and Sophs., the questions of leadership and team work etc. is always an issue. My point is that it is very important, yet trying to prognasticate how a team will be on these issues is really all "talk". All of these players need to step it up in practice, games and post season. HS football in KY has become very competitive and one good night does not make a season. November football can really care less about what happened in July, August, September and October.... Let the players skill, leadership and team concepts prove themselves befor we say they have over-achieved..... When they have accomplished great things, lets all give them credit....

Now you know why they are playing St.X this year! They would not do it if they did not think they could win.

They both had impressive numbers during their JR. year...Ballard's out of district schedule is indeed tough...St.X, Male, Manual, PRP, Butler, Fern Creek,and a Lex. team...I think they will do better than some think in the opener vs. ST.X:D
