That's funny, I seem to remember a couple years ago when Saint Xavier had THREE over 300 lb. players.....didn't pay off when it mattered in the championship. Ryle is extremely overrated, so is Scott Co. I would have

After Manual overachieved last year, and lost quite a little, then I'd say they may very well earn a spot in the top 10 in more expert polls. I don't know enough about 6A outside of Louisville to make a judgement call for an entire top 10.

Everytime I look at our new district I sigh. It still is a weak district. I wish we could have kept Fern Creek.

However, I don't see how Fern Creek could replace any of the remaining teams(Eastern, Ballard, Seneca) and strengthen the district. I do believe that all three of those teams got the better of Fern Creek last season.

Trinity has to be the preseason no. 1. No other team can claim a success record to buck over the last 5 years.... The program as it is today, demands a no. 1 rank. They should be no. 1 until, if, anyone can dethorn them from the state championship. Anyone who says differently has to be thinking and wishing of sugar plums and fairytails... Tigers (my team), needs to step up and exceed this challenge. The last two years, we have not met this challenge..... This is the reality of the situation.

Along with you I'm a little shocked that Manual isn't on anyone's list so far. I don't claim to have the foggiest idea about what other teams are bringing to the table, but this Manual team shouldn't be ignored. They had respectable outings vs T and X in the regular season and beat the likes of Warren Central, PRP, Butler, and Meade Co.

Fern Creek has an exciting young QB with a good arm. New Coach, former assistant under Redman will bring new ideas to the Creek that they haven't experienced. I highly doubt those above mentioned teams would get the best of FC this year. I may become a Creeker after this year!!!

I'm sure that Coach Huggins is going to do a great job at Fern Creek. I don't know how much effect that working under Redman will have. The head coaches at the other three schools worked under very good coaches also.

 

Having a year under his belt will definitely help the fine young QB in his maturation process. I will say that both Ballard and Eastern have three year varsity starters at QB. I believe that both young men will be offered scholarships(IMO) when all is said and done. I hope to see all three schools ranked in the top ten at seasons end.

How could you suggest rankings when you don't even know what class certain teams belong in?(just a thought) Cov Cath will be very very disappointing next year IMO.

It will be one or the other not both. I would venture to say it will be Ballard as Eastern's best teams have had a history of underacheiving (while Ballard has had the same problem in the past I feel the Bruins are better coached).

 

 

For what it's worth replacing Seneca with Fern Creek would improve this district.

1) St. X, since they have a big 300 pounder

2) Male, have something to prove

3) Ryle

6) Henry Clay

7) Henderson County

Seneca did beat Fern Creek this past season and I predict they will do so again this year (They play in week 3).

 

Seneca is returning the districts leading rusher (Anthony Knott) along with their fullback, tight end, and 3/5's of the OL. They will be able to run the ball. Coach Dover always has produced quality wide receivers. For Seneca the real questions are on defense. The Redhawks started as many as 8 freshmen and sophomores on defense last year. I expect great improvement from that group this year.

 

By the way, Seneca beat Eastern last year as well. Let's not assume that Eastern will defeat Seneca either!

By your estimation however it is okay to assume Trinity and Ballard will beat them?

PepRock01 - I didn't mean to suggest it is ok to assume anyone is going to beat Seneca. I'm a fan of the program. I was simply taking exception to the assumption that two schools Seneca beat this past year would beat the Redhawks next year. Coach Higgins may be an outstanding coach, I do not know him, but I think it is absurd to rank FC in the top 10 in the state coming off a 2 win season. I know the QB will be better, but that was not the only place they had trouble last year and he will still be just a sophomore. Turning around a program is a process that takes time. FC may get to the top 10, but should we be putting them there now?

 

With respect to Trinity and Ballard, Seneca has not won against either school in the last 3 years. I think Seneca will win those games, and I know the players and coaches believe it and are working for it, but until it is proven on the field, there is no basis to make bold claims here.
