Down with the OJ Mayo Era

If you missed the McDonald's All-American Game Wednesday night, you missed an appalling 4-for-17 performance by O.J. Mayo, who has a legitimate chance to replace Vince Carter as my least favorite NBA star of all-time before everything's said and done. Really, USC is expecting him to play point guard? That's the worst basketball-related idea since the Pacers teamed up Stephen Jackson and Ron Artest.

 

After all, Love represents everything good about basketball (unselfishness, teamwork, professionalism) and Mayo represents everything we've come to despise (showboating, selfishness, over-hype).

Right on. The perfect analysis of why I have grown to hate what was once my favorite sport. The new generation simply does not have a clue as to how the game was and should be played.

I've got to agree with him.

I was at the game last night, and Mayo definately tried to do way to much. He even started to get boo'd at the end of the game. I will say this though, if he would have hit the shot to win it at the end of the game, I guarantee we would not be having this discussion right now.

O.J. Mayo has alot of talent, but he is not bigger than the game. He would like to be, but he is NOT. What in the heck was he doing in the game during the state championship with his team up 40 and about a minute left? If he tried to dunk on me with a 40 point lead in the 4th quarter, his career would be over.

He was and if you knew anything about the situation you would agree.....

He made some good points, the part about the Celts makes me rather ill. It's all about the money for many.

He's almost two years older than most of the kids he's been playing against. I will be surprised if he's near as good in college.

You can not judge OJ because of one game. Yes, he did shoot to much and tried to showboat during the Mcdonalds game. Most kids play loose defense and showboat the whole game. OJ Mayo will be a superstar. He is still probably the best high school player in the nation, and everyone needs to get off the kids back over 1 bad performance. This stuff is hilarious.

He is a great talent but so are the other players that were in the game and they seemed to be a lot less about themselves than OJ did. I still cannot see him running the point and being successful at it with his shoot first attitude. It was obvious to me that he was trying to prove anyone wrong that thought Love was better and it worked out the opposite. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out in college for him, it appears he is getting another push over for a coach in Floyd that will let him do whatever he wants on the court.
