Old Rambler always has great OSU pictures

Thank You RDMVP, I have always beena OSU football fan but more so now bc of our hometown kid and former Ram Aaron Pettry as the Buckeye kicker. Aaron had an excellent season last year for the Buckeyes, hopefully he can continue to improve and impress.

I don't know right off hand how many of Raceland's losses in the playoffs were to the eventual State A Champion but I know that it must be a pretty high pct.

This is close.

^ One that you forgot was Ludlow in 75' or 76' I believe (that was the first year that Raceland had went to te playoffs) - The coach was Larry Heck. Also, I don't remember which years that Bellevue had the Sutcamp boys but I believe that they won a title, not sure on that. I know that Coach Randy Vanderhoof played against those very good Bellevue teams.

Old Rambler always has great OSU pictures ....Certainly a guy with great football taste ... Raceland will always be good. I am impressed by the head coach and staff. Coaching in high school , that can get a program in place can produce success at any and all levels , year in and year out ... Raceland , Russell , and Fairview have that right now ....

:thumb: Excellent post. As a fan of high school football I think we are very fortunate to have the coaches in our area that we have. All these coaches are great teachers of the game but also carry themselves with class and character. They teach these young men more than just football.

All these schools are also blessed to have great feeder systems. They start the foundation so that the coaches can have something to build on.

The most important thing these schools have is (IMO) a great bunch of kids that are willing to work and dedicate themselves on the field and in the classroom to become successful. This area has produced some great athletes through the years but what gets my attention is that these players are also excellent people of the community.

I got tired of researching, I was just making a point, I figured that pretty much made it.:thumb:

In 1978 Jon Sutkamp ran 52 times for 356 yds in the muddiest field I have ever seen. They ran the single wing and snapped it to who ever was going to run the ball. It was 1975 when Ludlow beat them

:thumb: I remember both of those games and was at both of those - just couldn't remember the excat years untill you mentioned it, Sutckamp ran the ball 52 times and they only ran 56 plays I believe............Who was the ball going to?

Wasn't that the game were it hadn't rained for about a month, but the field had six inches of mud?

No, the one that you are talking was one of the latter district games of the season with Mt. Sterling. That year you are correct, there was almost drought like conditions, when you drove into the town (Mt. Sterling), the streets were dry and even the parking lot and the school was bone dry. Walked into the field and it was rolling mud :D . Mt. Sterling won the game 6-0. That put the district title into a dead tie, even in the computer systems. Raceland and Mt. Stering had to play on the Monday night at Morehead following that Friday night to decide the district, Raceland won going away 30-0 and then had to play the playoff game on the following Friday. 3 games in 7 days.

I am pretty sure that this is correct, someone can correct me if this is wrong.

Raceland was beaten by Bellevue in 77,79,80,90,92,98,05. 78 was one of the few years that the Rams missed the playoffs.

1975 Region Finals ... Ludlow 27 Rams 0.

You are correct Oldrambler. I'm not sure what "muddy" game Ram is posting about but the games you described occured in the fall of 1975. Raceland had to play three games in one week and their season ended when they were defeated in the playoffs by eventual Class "A" State Champs Ludlow. Ludlow was led by running back/kicker Jim Lokesak. Ludlow defeated Heath 7-6 for the State Class "A" title.

:thumb: Thanks Fig, I thought that I had remembered correctly but wasn't 100% sure.

The game at Mt Sterling was apparently the game I was talking about. I didn't remember who the opponent was, but I remember people talking about it.

Maybe Springsteen can help out, but didn't something similar happen when Mike Hunt was a senior.

I understand from the 7 on 7 scrimmage with Lawrence that the Rams QB (Boyles) looked good, threw the ball well and the overall team speed was pretty good. Also the D-backs need some work on coverage but that should get worked out. I was told that the Lawrence Co. QB looked very good in picking out his recievers and getting the football to them.

Hopefully someone who was there can fill us in.
