2007 Raceland

Featured Replies

The 2007 Rams have some big shoes to fill. I really dont think the Ram fans will realize how special the 2006 senior class was until the 2007 season starts. The team captains; Forrest, Grizzle, Thompson, and McKenzie, were all excellent leaders who will be missed greatly. Also the other 11 seniors are going to be very tough to replace. Beach, Mullins, Caldwell, Rogers, Deskins, Chambers... all of these players were impact players for the Rams. Which in result to such a good senior class in 06', most of the key players for the 2007 rams were on the sidelines last year. However, I look for Boyles to step in at QB and have a nice season. He is a intelligent player and has proven to be a very reliable athlete on the offensive side of the ball. Denton, Carver, Logan, and Chinn all played significant minutes last year and did an excellent job. So I really look for a talented junior class to carry the Rams in 07'. The senior class is small but has several solid players. Sanders and Large will lead this years senior class. Also, lets no forget about the loss of coach Gerad Parker to UK. I think he is going to be missed more than most people realize.

I predict that the Rams will get off to a slow start. However, a very athletic and skilled junior class will lead them in a later part of the year and push them into the playoffs.

Record 6-5

Key Players- Boyles, Carver, Denton, Logan, Large, and Chinn.

I would also add Jacob Sparks to the list of key players. The kicking game was a very important part of last years team and this season will require the same effort. Steven Piercy will also be a name to look for.

I agree that Coach Parker will be missed. His work with the WR and DB's made a world of difference in last years team. His enthusiasm and positive attitude also played a key role. The biggest challenge will be on the offensive and defensive lines. I feel the Rams coachng staff has a plan in order and will work hard to achieve another successful season.

Hello fellow Rams and Ramblers, I am back from my scare and hospital stay this week. I guess that it took a Raceland Football thread to bring me back! :D

Ram your outlook imo was an excellent one, very knowledgeable.:thumb:

The Rams lost a lot from an 11-2 distict champion, regional runner up team but imo they will have some very good kids coming back that saw plenty of action last season and will give them experience. Raceland ALWAYS plays a tough non district schedule, we like it like that and this season is even tougher with the addition of the old long time rival in Russell. The Russell/Raceland rivalry some of these kids playing now probably don't know or realize to what intensity it really was but they will soon figure it out.

Good Luck to the Rams this season and you know that if the oldrambler is able that I will be with you all the way. I have been for 35+ years so I am not going anywhere! :ylsuper: Raceland Football Friday Nights! Nothing better anywhere!! :flame:

Great to see you back oldramble, and thanks for the :thumb:.

Your right we like and need the strong non-district schedule. And you are also right that all the players do not understand the old rivalry with Russell. I am twice as old as the current players and I do not remember the Raceland/Russell rivalry. But, I think they are going to learn about it real soon.

In the spring practice I have to say I was plesently surprised with the look of the O and D lines. I think the line is going to be better then any of us predicted. Not the same as the 2006 line, but, better then we thought.

Thank you for the welcome back. I still am very weak and can't post a whole lot at one time. I agree with you on the old Raceland/Russell rivalry. Just ask anyone that has been around for a very long time and I am sure they would be glad to tell you and especially the current players all about it. I remember being a very small kid and my sisters (who were in school at Raceland at that time) taking me to the "Burn the Devil Night", they would have their friends and sometimes some of the curent football players put me up on their shoulders so I could get a better view of all the pep rally/activities. I do know that just last summer I believe Raceland classes from the 60's had a big class/school reunion and one of their activities was that they recreated a "Burn the Devil" pep rally.:D

I am glad the spring game looked good, I like a lot of people have some questions on how we will be replacing in some areas. One thing fo certain is that our coaching staff will get the job done.

How about the renewed rivalry with Paintsville. I remember when Pantsville was in our district, and we had some extremely good battles for the district championship. Also could be a preview of the playoffs. Should be an interesting game.

Old Rambler welcome back. I dont know if we are sick or just sick with spring fever. I was glad things went well. I think every successful year and graduating many that you start worrying but everyone that I have spoken with says its starting to click.

I can say I watched several spring practices, and the Rams are well of ahead of where I expected them to be at this point. I truly expect a very good team with deep play off possibilities.

click, click, click.

Why don't we go through the schedule game by game and give our opinion on how we think Raceland will do.

Ashland

I think this game will be important for both teams. Both teams will have a young new line with some experience in the back fields, and both teams will be playing with some new linebackers on defense. I think in this game both teams will score a moderate amount of points both trying to get some young players some experience. I have to go with my Rams in a close one.

We probably should start a thread on predictions so as not to hijack this thread.

Lets get back to talking some Raceland Football, no predictions on any certain games or anything, plenty of time for that.

How are things shaping up in RamLand? Any News?

I'm ready for some Football. :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

I am really looking forward to the upcoming season. We had a good spring practice session, with good numbers participating. I have heard that weightlifting has had good numbers with very good sessions. I have not heard how 7 on 7 has been going, but I hope it has been as well as the weight room reportedly has been.

Everyone seems to be excited, which is always a good sign. Intensity level is high. August 24 can not come soon enough.

I know they had a 7 on 7 scheduled this week at Greenup County but I don't have any details.

Imo the biggest question for this years edition of the Rams will be the defense. I know that there are some good kids coming back but some very good ones were lost due to graduation. Coaches Vanderhoof and Maynard will have some adjustments to make on "D" and imo they will and bring back the 07' edition of the "ORANGE CRUSH" .

Old Rambler always has great OSU pictures ....Certainly a guy with great football taste ... Raceland will always be good. I am impressed by the head coach and staff. Coaching in high school , that can get a program in place can produce success at any and all levels , year in and year out ... Raceland , Russell , and Fairview have that right now ....

Good post MVP. I have to agree, these programs have had much success over a long time, most people from around the state do not realize this, many Raceland and Russell teams have lost in the first two rounds of the playoffs to the eventual state champion and most around the state have not had a chance to see some very good teams from this area. Of course Russell has changed that the last two years to some degree, but those two teams are only a small fraction of some very good Russell and Raceland teams.

I agree Ram :thumb: . Raceland, Russell and Ashland have had an established tradition for years in this area. I don't know right off hand how many of Raceland's losses in the playoffs were to the eventual State A Champion but I know that it must be a pretty high pct.. Same for Russell, even as far back when the Red Devils were in AAA. Ashland is Ashland, nothing else need be said for the Tomcat tradition - they take a backseat to no one. Lawrence Co. is another school in our area that has had a long football tradition, they have been down for a few years but when you look at the overall picture you imo have to add their tradition in as well. A few other teams have had 3-4 year run at times of pretty good teams but the ones that I mentioned are imo the "tradition" schools year in and year out in that they are always a factor.
