March 15, 200719 yr I've seen posts in other threads about "green energy". Who can convince me it's the way to go? Why it's a better solution? If you're talking about alternative energy sources, it soon will be the ONLY way to go.
March 15, 200719 yr Author If you're talking about alternative energy sources, it soon will be the ONLY way to go.How soon are we talking and what sources?
March 15, 200719 yr Well lets see. Wind power's out because it kills birds. Nuclear power is out because we might have a melt down. Solar power is out because of the vast amount of land that would be required to lay out a solar farm. Coal, dirty. Oil, too much dependence. Looks like we're going to be sitting in the dark.

March 16, 200719 yr Someone's going to invent the sustainable electric fuel cell and make a fortune and the world, after a few wars, will change.
March 16, 200719 yr That would be my choice. Mine as well, I have read up on many new proposals for types of powerplants too. Slightly different from the type we know with the control rods as these consist of pellets of uranium that are encased in a silicate (or carbon I think) shell. After they are depleted they seal themselves and the chance of meltdown is nil. Of course we could also look at moving toward fusion power as it would be much cleaner and easier to deal with than the traditional fission that we use. Problem of course is developing it.
March 16, 200719 yr According to many nay sayers on here it's not gonna matter by the time it should be an issue the world will have decipated to nothing. I on the other hand think the U.S should just start handing out bikes now so we can lower the cholesterol and try to get away from being the worlds most over weight nation. It's great how you can compare our poor to others in the world and a large percentage of ours are actually obese, and is most country's may not even be considered poor.
March 16, 200719 yr RTS, are you talking about personal sources of Green Energy (heating one's home, powering one's appliances) or industrial uses?

I also think more needs to be done to encourage people to use public transportation where available, and the development of public transportation in underserved areas.
March 16, 200719 yr Fusion power is the answer. That is if you ignore the fact that we've never built any kind of fusion reactor. There's the sun, but I don't think we can take credit for that fusion reactor.
March 16, 200719 yr Author RTS, are you talking about personal sources of Green Energy (heating one's home, powering one's appliances) or industrial uses?Well, both I guess. I'm just interested in what will replace what we use now or what in your opinion is a better option.
March 16, 200719 yr Well, both I guess. I'm just interested in what will replace what we use now or what in your opinion is a better option. I think "safer" nuclear and maybe someday fission is the answer. But other sources, like solar, wind, and hydro-electric should not be set aside. It's going to take a combination of a number of energy sources.
