It surprises me how disciplined this VERY young HHS team is. They execute pretty well for a bunch of Frosh, Sophs and Jrs...

 

BTW, anyone have a clue why I had to pay $4 for a 4 year old and $4 more for a 19 month old child.

I'm happy to see Jaime and the Lady Birds pick up the win tonight. Sticky, had I known you'd be out there I would have hung around a little after the Notre Dame / Boone game. I paid $6 for a quarter and a 1/2.:creepy:

First of all congrats to Highlands on the win. In the first half it was a very evenly matched game, and the only difference was the officials and the fouls. The officials in the first half especially this one was horrible. There was alot of fouls that they were calling on ludlow which I admit they were fouls, but they weren't calling those same ones on Highlands. I think it showed by the foul total being 9 to 3 at the half. In the second half the officials did a better job, and were calling those same fouls on Highlands that for some reason they didn't call in the first half. I would want to make it clear though I am in no way shape or form saying the officials is why Ludlow lost. I just bring it up in the first half it was a very evenly matched game and should have been closer than that 8 point margin in the first half. However the officiating wouldn't have matter because in the second half Highlands came out fast and were making their shots, and Ludlow wasn't and that is why Highlands won.

 

Highlands in the second half really just got it going and was making alot of their shots, while Ludlow couldnt' buy a bucket from the outside. Ludlows inside game did what they could to keep them in it. Ludlow's post player in Ashley Daughtery had 22 points for Ludlow, and Julie Hardin had 4 or 5 blocks for Ludlow, so the inside players did what they had to do. Just the guards wasn't able to hit their open shots when they had them. Ludlow had alot of open threes that during the season they made, but couldn't tonight. Actually over the last 3 or 4 games Ludlow has just really gone cold from the outside and that is what really hurt this team. If they make those shots that these players usually make then this game goes down to the final minute. Highlands though played a very good game, and deserved to win. This Highlands team is definitely very talented, and if they keep hitting their shots like they have lately then they have a real good shot at upsetting NDA...

 

So I just want to wish the best of luck to Highlands in the rest of the tournament!!!

Finally I just want to congratulate the Lady Panthers on a GREAT season. They won the conference championship for the second year in a row, set a record in wins in a season, were district runner-ups, and made the region. This is definitely one of the best Ludlow girls teams in Ludlow's history. Also I want to congratulate the one senior on the team in Kassi Wofford on a GREAT career at Ludlow. She has been playing on the varsity team since I believe 8th grade, and was a 1000 point scorer at Ludlow. She was a big part in getting this Ludlow program to where it is today, and will be missed greatly!!!

I have always thought that the smaller schools just can't play w/the big dogs, so to speak, because of the weak schedule they all play against one another. Ludlow had a great yr but don't you think they need to throw some bigger and better competition at the bunch returning and they have some good talent coming back. Just looking for your opinion, thanks.

Strengthening the schedule is easier said than done in most cases. With required conference games accounting for 10 - 12 games and district games required for seeding purposes adding another 4, throw in the All "A" tournament and an invitational tournament, it leaves very few "AT LARGE" games to schedule. Then you have to find a tougher opponent with an open date that is willing to play is not always so easy.

Well I dont know for sure, but I would think they would try to beef up their schedule some. I mean they did improve their schedule this year a little bit from last year. They had that tournament down in Gallatin County, where they played Carroll County who is one of the best in the 8th region, and then they threw in some teams this year that were around the same level as them. I not sure if we will see them throwing teams like Boone, or NDA on the schedule yet or not. But however IMO I know I would like to see them maybe schedule one of those teams if they can because we do have ALOT returning next year since we are only losing one senior, and it would be good to play a few tougher games to help prepare them for the region next year...

Second, I thought Ludlow's decision to play a "box and 1" defense was interesting. I think Katie Allen is a wonderful talent, but at this point in her career I don't think she is the type of scorer that warrants such a defense. The young lady from Ludlow had to work so hard on the defensive end that it hurt her ability to be effective on the offensive end.

 

Lastly, the Daugherty girl was very impressive as was the big girl off the bench. I think I read where both of these girls are sophs, if so they will continue to be successful at Ludlow.

The part I bolded is the only part I disagree with. The officiating was far from being great. You said you were at the game, and the fouls was in favor of Highland because they were attacking the basket. But Ludlow was going inside all night, and how many times in that first half did Ludlow have fast breaks and Ludlow goes up for a lay up and a highlands girl would get them with the body. That happen numerous of times, and they were calling it on Ludlow on the other end. Also in that press, there was alot of hacking on the arms that the highlands girls did while dribbling that once again in the first half they never called. Now in the second half they were calling those same fouls, but for whatever reason in the first half they wouldn't call them on Highlands. As I said before the officials definitely didn't change the outcome of the game because Highlands still would have won because they were able to hit shots and Ludlow wasn't able to hit anything except for the real short shots. However your comment on saying the officials were excellent is far from true. Their was one official who did a great job calling the game for both halves, but the other two especially this one missed ALOT of calls in the first half...

 

Also you are right the future just looks to get even better for Ludlow, because they will only be losing one senior and everyone else will be back. The good thing about this group is that I dont think any of them will switch schools like some of the other very good ball players we had at Ludlow in Rachel Lantry, Katie Behrens, etc. Ludlow produces alot of good athletes and as long as they stay at Ludlow, Ludlows sports programs are very good...

I had heard they were charging for little kids. This is ridiculous. How in the world can you charge for a 19 mo. old. The Reds don't even do that. I am not in that situation, but I wonder what would happen if you just said I'm not paying for them and walked on in. Are they going to get the police? IMO someone needs to challange this and see what happens. This whole situation should be brought to the attention of the appropriate decision makers. The kids would probably spend a couple of bucks at the concession stand, so they would still get their money.

Ludlow is a great team with a lot of talent returning. How will they fill Wofford's shoes? I think it WOULD be beneficial for them to throw a Conner or Holmes into their schedule. I am not a fan of their conference rule that says they have to play each team in their conference twice. It should be one and done, unless you meet in the post season. This really hurts the scheduling process for your coaches. Great year, and good luck next year to the Panthers.
