Why is wanting better than Bobby Perry unrealistic? Why is wanting talent good enough to get drafted high in the NBA not realistic at the best program in the land?

 

 

The problem is not getting talent good enough to play in the NBA. The problem is getting the most out of that talent. For example if Prince would have been as aggressive as he is now with Detroit then who knows what we could've done. No one thought Hayes would be anything more than a roster filler and he's turned into a solid contributor. Azabuike never panned out to be the prolific scorer he was in high school. He goes out of the system into the NBDL and blows up to earn a spot in the NBA.

 

I'm a firm believer that Tubby hold his players back in his system.

We all know you guys have problems with it but we don't have to start 20404 threads about it.

 

Actually I think we passed that number after the first two losses in Maui this year. lol

I think it's pretty safe to say that all UK fans feel the program hasn't met expectations this year and last. The difference is that some, myself included, feel it is too soon to panic, and make drastic changes in the program.

 

I think the the main problem posters on here have is that there are so many threads that all talk about the same dang thing. Any thread that UK is mentioned in turns into a thread criticizing the coaching staff and the players. Everyone has the right to post what they want, but it just gets old when every thread you go into has the same exact conversation going on as the previous one.

Buike, I agree, didn't quite live up to his rep, although I think he would have had he came back for his senior year.

Some people will argue with you no matter what even if you say something true about Tubby. However I believe most of us argue back when people bash Tubby by saying he is a terrible coach, and should only be at a mid major. Because that is not true at all, he is one of the best in the country. Other than that I really wont argue much on stuff, because most of us realize the weaknesses, like recruiting....

I'm sorry but you've seen my arguement here and refuse to accept that it's been disappointing.

Instead you'd rather call me a TBer than acknowledge that more players under Tubby have not lived up to expectations than have. Rondo, Parker, Crawford, Stone, Ramel Bradley, Morris, Michael Bradley, Sheray Thomas, Woo, Shag.

 

Tubby can coach, he's a VERY good coach. He's proved that time and time again. My problem is recruiting and the lack of fixing it. For all the porojects we have (about 3 recruits a year it seems like) how many pan out? Aren't they projects for a reason? Why recruit 9 untalented 7 footers?

 

Maybe Tubby recruits kids who aren't that good so they don't fail. Maybe he didn't want another disappoinment like Marvin Stone so instead went after Bobby Perry who wasn't ever good enough to let anyone down.

What would UK's record be this year if they had scored 10 more points so far, 15 more, 20 more........spread out among their losses? It's amazing how the perception of a coach depends so much on the vagaries of a game. There were a lot of people who were thinking Coach Pitino had lost it before UL started winning. Now (about 1 month later) you don't hear it.

Because those are the only threads there are anymore...

 

 

Find a positive and post about it and maybe someone will be interested. BTW though boring positives like Tubby is a nice guy, and Bobby Perry plays the piano are broke and nobody is going to post. Negative things happen and negative posts are made. Find me something positive that's actually relevant. Find me PP's LOI or JL's. You'll have to look for anything positive.

Criticism of Tubby's last two years is valid. I am as unhappy as anyone with the recent recruiting mishaps that have led to the current mediocre two year stretch. To go a step further, as ardent a Tubby supporter as I have been the past two years, if he remains at UK (which he probably will), and doesn't land Patterson and Lucas, I'll be ready for him to go.

 

My problem with Tubby bashers (or whatever) is the countless, ridiculous accusations/assumptions/observations such as:

 

-Winning a championship w/ Pitino's players (my favorite)

-Silly comparisons to Billy Donovan when Tubby owned him up until last year

-Final Fours are easy to reach

-They play a boring style (even though if it's played right, it wins)

-he didn't recruit Lofton (guess what? nobody else did either)

 

When UK gets a new coach, and that coach doesn't equal UK's "standards" set from the mid 90's (which NO ONE will), what next?

Especially when the only positives you can find are a reach at best.

I dont know if anybody read the CJ but there was a nice artical on Tubby, how Billy D thinks about what tubby had did at UK.
