Rodney Woods is a great coach, he took his boys and beat McCreary and he could take McCreary's and beat Wayne......that is the difference in the game.

I can't speak when we lose. As most Raider fans, it's hard to even comprehend that after the past couple of seasons. The Raiders did sweep the Cards last season though... too bad they couldn't this year. A healthy Bartley might have helped, but this game was lost by the coach, not the players.

Tough loss, was the district seeded or was it a draw? If it was a draw, that was a bad one for McCreary, seems like they struggled with Wayne Co. both times this year.

Why blame the Coach. The Coach can't make the free throws, the coach can't box-out on free throw. The coach can't dribble the ball for them. The coah can't make lay-ups for them. Does it matter that the raiders was up 2 with a few seconds to go. Did Jones miss the free throw, Did Jones not get the rebound?

Were the Raiders in foul trouble or something like that to make them go to the stall ahead by 10 with five minutes to go?

No.. they weren't in any kind of foul trouble. No player ended up with even 4 fouls for the Raiders. I'm assuming Jones just wanted to try to hold the ball. I think continuing the game they've played, atleast until three minutes to go would have won the game for the Raiders. The missed free-throws by Bartley and Watts were huge, but they wouldn't be in the situation if they wouldn't have played that offense. They beat Wayne the entire game until their prevent offense.

From the Wayne team I have seen this year they usually do not make late game charges. I watched them let the time run out a couple of games this year once they were behind 8 or so with under three to play. Coach Woods is not one to start hacking and fouling if he sees victory is not within his reach. Sad day in the Raider Nation, best of luck next season. Watts is a special player and he will lead the Raiders next year as well.

Watts had an off game. The Cards didn't have to foul... McCreary simply turned the ball over and since they were holding the ball, they weren't scoring. If memory serves me correct, McCreary was outscored 4-16 in the fourth... including 10 straight for the Cards from 5+ without the Raiders scoring.

It seems as though turnovers has been a common thread in most of McCreary's losses this season. Its for sure what cost them the Somerset game--I said after that game that ballhandling, or lack thereof was their Achilles Heel. Even so it was a good season for a young McCreary team and they should be strong next year. Of cours with Wayne giving signifigant minutes to 2 8th graders these 2 teams could spend the next 2-3 years battling it out like this.

SSF- Don't you think it is sort of rough to throw Jones under the bus for the loss? All season long you've sang his praises and it looks like he makes one mistake (In your eyes) and your going to blast him? I would have to agree that coaches have to make the calls that put their team in situations where they can win or lose but like someone said earlier he didn't turn it over for them or miss a free throw.

I thought McCreary got every loose ball tonight for 3 1/2 Quarters. Watts had an off night offensively but he shut down the point guard from Wayne.

The last 4 minutes of regulation and in overtime Wayne got every break.

(loose balls, and a couple of calls or no calls) And Waynes kids stepped up made plays at the end.

 

I respect both coaches. People are bashing Jones for his coaching but in reality if he won the game people would be praising him and bashing Coach Woods for not having his team fouling earlier. McCreary had an 8 point lead or so with about 4 minutes to go and ran off two minutes from the clock.

 

It seems there was a timeout and then McCreary had two strait turnovers that led to easy Wayne baskets. I do not think Coach Jones told his players to turn the ball over in that time out. ( If he did then he is a bad coach)

 

McCreary then had what appeared to be a wide open layup and a Wayne player came out of no where to block the shot and Wayne ended up with the ball again. If that kid hits the shot it would have been game over McCreary wins.

 

As stated in earlier posts Watts and Bartley both missed FT with the game on the line. If they make those its game over McCreary wins. ( Once again if Jones told those two players to miss the FT's then you all are correct he is a bad coach.)

 

Coach Jones called a time out to freeze the 8th grader on a FT. The kid came out and clanked it. That was some pretty good coaching on Jones part.

 

If McCreary had not had those two turnovers and had hit their FT , made the layup that was blocked, then we would be sitting here questioning why Coach Woods let McCreary take two minutes off the clock down by 8 points, and how Coach Jones out coached him.

 

Wayne Co. kids made the plays down the stretch and earned the victory. Congratulations to them.

 

 

On a side note If it had gone 22 more overtimes I think McCreary would have won by 3
