LSURock
I would like to see the Comparison between Tubby and Pitino sense Pitino's return from the NBA. Anyone???? Final fours: Pitino 1 Tubby 0 Program rebuilds: Pitino 1 Tubby 0 Pushing a once proud program to its depths: Pitino 0 Tubby 1 Etc.
Log Mountain Boy
Tubby 4 Pitino 2 Tubby has won 3 in a row vs. Pitino. Now Im not saying Tubby is a better coach, but you can twist stats around and make them look how you want them to. Tubby obviously doesnt have UK as dominant as they were when Pitino was here, but college basketball is a little more balanced than then and Pitino during his tenure at UK has to be 1 of the top 3 or 4 college bball coaching jobs ever to do what he did here. woodsrider
>> Final Fours Pitino 5 (3 at Kentucky) Tubby 1 Final Four (a player Tubby Smith has recruited has never been to a FF in his 16 year career at Tulsa, Georgia, or Kentucky) WOW !!!!! As I stated in another thread Saul Smith was a Freshman on the 98 championship team. It would be my guess that Tubby recruited him. There were also two other freshman on that team. Whether or not Tubby recruited them I can't say.

LSURock
Did Louisville really need rebuilding? I had season tickets during Denny's final years (business reasons). I couldn't give them away. I'd say they needed a pretty major over-haul at that point.
LSURock
Natonal Titles: Pitino 1 Tubby 1 Interesting point. Rick took a probation ravaged team and buit them back into a national heavy-weight that went on a great run. Tubby took a over a program at its zenith, won another title with it and never got back to the final four. This may be a case where one doesn't equal one. oldrambler
Get over it, Pitino is long gone and not coming back. :thumb: :thumb: Some I guess love to look in the rear view mirror.

Anyone who thinks UK's 98 team was the most talented team in college basketball is off. They werent. It was a team that had lost 3 starters from the year before, one a consensus All American. Say what you want, but Tubby did a great job with that team. As I have said, Pitino did an amazing job his time here at UK. No denying that. And I still love Pitino for it. I hate to see that come true, but with each progressive season under Coach Tubby Smith, the University of Kentucky's foundation has weakened to where it is now at the point of collapse. In his 9 (soon to be 10) years at Kentucky he has nearly destroyed what it took 100 years to build I love this post!
