Two years ago they were a rebound away from the Final Four. That seems like a "few" years to me.

It seems to me this recent "heat" on OTS is all based on the "w's" of lack of. I think every UK fan can objectively say that the program has dropped a notch or two in the last few years. (If you dont believe this, then we can discuss on another thread...) Having said this, the ultimate question in my mind is: Will UK (Athletic Administration and Fans) accept the typically season to consists of a 10 - 12 loss season, second round NCAA exit etc. and still be HAPPY? To me, is was very similar to the football program, is 2 - 8 acceptable year after year??? If your answer is that this is the best we can do then keep the coach and shut up.... For Basketball, IF you think we are doing the best we can, then keep OTS. Leadership at the AD position must make these decisions, thats why they are paid the $$$ they are....

Your right!!!! The media won't look at what has or hasn't done over the past few years. The will only point out how the Crazy UK fan base "got rid or forced" out Tubby.

It's not like he won't have a good paying job the next day if he wants one. Hopefully, it just won't be in Kentucky.

I'd say it is already interesting. I hope for everyone involved that the issues can be resolved and Tubby can ride off with some dignity. Unfortunately the UK fan base will be over criticized but the bottom line is that Smith is no longer effective in his current position.

While I have been supportive of Tubby, I think his position has moved into a similar position that Huggins was in.

 

It would be best for all parties with the atmosphere that has been created for UK and Tubby to move on.

Tubby's tenure has been a very GOOD one.

Represented the school with class, pride, added titles, hardware, awards, #1 rankings, etc.

 

But this is a slippery slope now.

 

As for the FAN BASE.......

 

Its the OTHER school's fans that are coming up to me and saying, "Where are your cats?"

 

Not only does UK fans expect greatness....but so does the rest of the NCAA!

I heard or read somewhere that someone offered to put up the money. I just don't see anyway that Smith returns next season barring a miracle run in March.

From what I have heard with people close to the situation, if the "buyout" attempt by a group of boosters is true (I don't believe it is), then the state of UK basketball is IMO in more trouble than keeping Tubby as head coach.

I disagree to a degree. I think following the team and supporting them is loyalty. I don't think the large percentage of the UK fan base expects championships every year. I think that statement is way off base. The don't expect 10 loss season after 10 loss season either. Nor do they expect to be dominated by Vandy, and they shouldn't.

I have followed the Cats for 31+ years now. The problem I'm seeing really isn't the fact we're getting the L's, it's who we're getting them from. When is the last time UK beat a "quality" team? When is the last time UK went winless against all ranked teams in a season? OTS has a good winning % here, but it is against the so-called "scrub" type teams. A tough schedule means nothing when you aren't competing with the elites, which is really UK's peer-group. The winningest school in NCAA history should not fade away year after year like we are now. I don't know if the head coaching change is the answer, but the "big" changes from last year never came about, so something should/needs be done. A one year fall back is acceptable, but progress should be shown. We're possibly in worse shape going into the tourney this year than last. If you were a CEO at a large firm and were making no progress, you would be handed walking papers, a hefty severance and a hand shake. Tubby is the CEO here. Responsibility belongs to the head man.

:thumb: Great post! I think my main gripe this year is that after last year we got all the tough talk how "this" was not going to happen again. But here we sit, with it happening again. "This" wasn't going to happen again after Team Turmoil either. "This" is happening far too often. Tubby Smith may indeed be a good person, but he can't run a big time basketball program. Tulsa? Yes. Georgia? Sure- they are just happy getting in the NCAA Tourney.

 

As the Tubby Era has continued I have watched the continued fall of pride from the players on the team. The hustle is gone. The name on the jersey means nothing anymore. With the exception of our Freshmen (Japser and Meeks) and Woo and Bradley everyone else seems to be running through the motions. Is it a sign of the "times?" I don't think so. When I watch Duke or Carolina or UCLA I don't see that attitude whether they are playing Wake Forest or Forest Grove Community College. So I don't buy that song and dance excuse.

 

I also don't understand how people can continue to support a Coach who, perhaps unwittingly, has fostered this type of attitude in the first place and allowed it to reach the point it has. Bottom line to me, if you really do care about UK Basketball then you care about how the program is ran. Blindly supporting someone just because they have a certain job doesn't hold water. Would you support a bad boss at your place of work just because you love the company you work for?

 

The bottom line is that after last season, after Team Turmoil,Tubby pledged that "this" would not happen again. And yet here we sit again and it has happened again. Fool me once- shame on you. Fool me twice? Shame on me. Fool me thrice? There's the door, I hope my shoe doesn't leave to big a mark on you on the way out.
