If you have seen a wrestling meet and thought it was boring than you just did not understand what was going on. Its kind of like taking your girlfreind to a football game(except for my wife, she understands the game better than most men). But wrestling isn't as popular as football or basketball. That doesn't mean they should end the sport(or in this case not pick it up). If you look at it in a world veiw football isn't as popular as soccer. But for me that doesn't make it less appreciated. Your assumption that wrestling crosses over to lineman but not skill positions just shows your lack of knowledge on what wrestling improves. If you notice most of the weight classes go along with the sizes of skill players more than lineman. It increases eyehand coordination, foot speed, agility, flexibility, core strength, grip strength and so much more. That translates into any position. There are alot of kids in the school that don't play basketball, give them something to do.

No, I have actually attended many big meets and have a pretty good understanding of the sport. It just didn't appeal to, much as soccer doesn't even though I have watched many soccer games and worked with some of the best coaches in the country at the collegiate level.

What debate? Boyd is gonna have a wrestling team. I applaud them for it! Too bad they didn't have one when guys like Ron Mullins or Kingofthejungle were in school. Back then it was rasslin' though. Not to mention that the thought of KOJ in one of those outfits gives me the willies!:creepy:

There was no debate about Boyd's starting a program, the debate was more on the likelihood of other are schools (specifically Russell and GC) adding it as well as whether it should be picked up by more schools. As a medical professional, my biggest concern would be the number of kids I have seen with eating disorders due to the sometimes obsessvive nature of those trying to cut weight.

Sad that people would step on a childs dream or opportunity, because they don't like the same things that others do. :madman:

Wow...so I'm selfish and squashing children's dreams. I didn't know I was such a bad person...

I've personally talked to people on the board or control for the khsaa and they stated that title IX shouldn't play a part. Wrestling is technically a coed sport. Its the interpretation from the local part that causes the problems most of the time.

If it is a co-ed sport, does that mean girls wrestle against boys? They will be signing up by the hundards.:thumb: (KOTJ) may have some elgiabilty left.:D

Yes, I have been to several big meets...I'd rather watch paint dry.

It's too bad that we cant set up the top rope and have wrestlers do the elbow drop.

Some tournaments can be long and drawn out, if you are there with a team it is alot better but the finals are awesome to watch.

I have been to alot of state tournament finals. And nothing is more exciting than the state wrestling finals under the lights.

I've seen a number of girls wrestle and can count on one finger how many of them could hold their own against the boys. I think she wrestled for South Oldham. The vast majority of the girls get stomped. There was one that left the mat crying every single match.

Glad that I could help you see that... :thumb:

Thats right!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am throwin out a challenge match...LOSER LEAVE TOWN.........KOJ vs SPINNY........This will be held on the outer banks of the Ohio River new Louisa, where the mud can make you grow a third eye.....

Yes they wrestle against boys. Girls do hold their own in the grade school levels.

Today people seem to think its an eating disorder if someone won't eat McDonald's or if they don't drink soda. With the new regualations its hard to do the extreme tactics that athletes went through before. By today's standards I wouldn't even be aloud to drop but a few pounds and i'm 215lbs. There are no sauna's, no plastics, and you have to make weight very early in the season.

I think its great Boyd is starting up a program. I'll like to see every school that fields a football team start a wrestling team. With all the schools now in region 8, khsaa needs to look at re-alignment for this region. With Ashland and Pike back and new addittion of Letcher last year, makes region 8 have the most teams and the furtherest amount of travel time. Teams traveled about 4 hrs to get to wayne county. How many schools out there travel more than 2 hrs?

What can we learn about goherd? Here is a copy of his BGP public biography:

In this thread you tell us that you do not like wrestling, basketball or soccer for crying out loud. Yet in your bio you claim to enjoy watching most other sports. IMO, this makes you seem conflicted.

... As a medical professional, ...

Are we supposed to think your opinion is more special because of this? You are entitled to your opinion. But, everybody has one – and yours is not special. As for me, even after reading all you have to say, I still like wrestling.

... not too many folks give a hoot about wrestling. Count me in that group...:thumb:

If we do count you in that group, will you go away? :D

Seriously, I'll give you this - you've brought life to this thread and have single handedly increased awareness of wrestling on this board. ;)

Well, it ain't rocket science to be a medical professional,,,,heck,,,,I'm one! And in my professional experience, the only thing I saw in my decade plus is two kids from Cabell Midland get the inside of their noses cauterized to cut down on nose bleeds. They diet to "cut weight". It's not like they're bulemic. But the kids I've seen wrestle are some of the most fit kids I know.

And with regards to the showdown with KOJ, neither of us can rassle anymore, and for that matter, neither of us have any hair to pull, so what's the point?

I've seen multiple cases of kids literally starving themselves to make weight. That is generally defined as an eating disorder, not dieting.

As for being a medical professional, no, I'm no more special than anyone else, but I have been able to observe unhealthy, to the point of being dangerous, habits used by wrestlers in an effort to gain an advantage by wrestling down a class. The kids, and sometimes coaches (although rarely), can't figure out that if I skip meals to make weight, I also lose strength and endurance which will greatly inhibit my ability to perform.

One other thing, say what you want about my profile, at least mine is filled out and I'm not posting my obviously inflammatory opinion while hiding behind a screen name. Any one with a brain pretty much knows who I am...:thumb:

Now if I change my profile to read, enjoy watching some other sports, will that make you happy???

By the way, can one of the mods answer if this is a record for the most posts on one thread in this forum??? If so, I want due credit for stirring up the hornets nest...:D
