Sounds like an awesome game. It was just a couple of years ago that they played a triple overtime game between these two teams at Fairview, the Eagles won that one, can't remember the score but both teams were in the 90's in that one. This is one of the most hard fought rivalries in the area, I am surprised that this game was this close, nice to see Cameron Hall coming on, he is a very talented freshman who is flying under the radar so to speak.

Fairview was up 3 at the end of regulation and the 1st OT.

 

Instead of fouling Maynard before he got the shots off to send him to the line for two, the defender let him launch a couple of 24 footers which he drained.

I am sure Coach Cooksey wanted a foul on both occasions but didn't get it in time.

I don't believe that the Tomcats will play such lackluster offense to allow the Eagles to score 98 points in the 64th District Tourney. Great game, but doesn't sound like a whole lot opf defense was put up by either team.

It will be very hard to win the region giving up 98 points.

Exactly look at the past scores from the Regional Tourney and it is easy to see games are never played in the 80's, 90's and not in the 100's for sure. Teams and coaches are always tighter when it comes to having a trip to Rupp on the line. So Elliott fans can be happy with a regular season win and 102 points, but come March none of that really matters.

I agree-I doubt if Fairview will score 98 on Ashland either.But you need to remember that this was the equivalent of a 40 minute game,in essence an extra quarter.Fairview and Elliott had 80 at the end of regulation.Exactly one week earlier Ashland gave up 83 to Elliott in regulation.Elliott is just an offensive team.A nightmare to match up with.Weaknesses, yes they have a few but who doesn't?They can score from every position and rebound from every position.

Why, especially in our region are people so much more impressed with a 49-45 game than they are a 102-98 game.

After giving up 69 to Rowan earlier this year Coach Biggs of Ashland stated that the final margin was what was important.I agree.Too many people want to criticize the style of play of Elliott but IMO they would not be nearly as effective playing "Ball possession".

As far as low scores at the region you have a point.But the length of the court and the vastness of the arena are also factors.

I'm not asking for a slower tempo from Elliott, but in my humble opinion they will get run off the floor by a few teams in Rupp if they try to continually run instead of looking for a good shot. Just remember there is a difference in playing fast then playing smart and fast.

General, Elliott does play smart. They take good shots for the most part, just quicker than our region has been used to in a while. All high school teams take the occasional bad shot, particularly with 5 sophmores starting and an 8th grader getting major minutes. I haven't seen anyone run them off the floor in a long time. They have the talent and desire represent the region as well as any other team. With the wrong draw most 16th regioin teams will have difficulty as evidenced by past State Tournaments. At any rate who knows who will be in Rupp? I still have to say Russell is the heavy favorite, returning eevrybody from last years championship team, but Elliott, Ashland and possibly Rose Hill will have something to prove in Morehead.

I'm going out on a limb here to clarify that Sportsfan is not suggesting that Elliott will necessarily score in the 100 point range against Regional tournament opponents, but merely stating the logic of simple math in response to Jay's statement:

Sportsfan could have said, "Not if you score 99!" or "Not if you score 120!"

 

It doesn't matter how many points your opponent scores as long as your team finishes with at least one more... :thumb:

The point is Elliott has yet to see the talent and athletes that are on some teams throughout the state and the All 'A' is the best measuring stick believe me. I could name many teams that are quicker and more athletic and with that they could not hang in there I believe.

While I agree, they are several quicker and more athletic teams not only in the state, but inside their own region. But I disagree with you on them not being able to "hang in there." Elliott Co can score with anyone in the state and plays as hard as anyone in the state. They played a South Charleston team who was much quicker, bigger and more athletic to 3 points. That South Charleston would compete for a state title in Kentucky. I do agree with you though, there is a select few that, this year, Elliott probably couldn't "hang in there" with.

Duh!!!!!!!!! Why wouldn't they be happy with any win, and any amount of point's?????? I think they understand the difference in march, seeing that they made it to the final game last year!! So yes! We will take a win in february no matter what the score or margin.:ylsuper:

I wish Cameron Hall the best. He was a very good AAU player a few years ago when he played with some boys from Rose Hill and Clark Co . I watched him play a lot those years and could tell he had some promise. That game of 200 points must have been a run and gun game. Would have been fun to watch.:flame:
