I hate to see a stat like that when all people want to see is a good game. Just let em play!

Did Scott not drive to the basket enough? Or were they just not getting the calls?

A few things:

 

When SC drove, Patterson swatted.

 

HHS held a lead late and was fouled...accounted for 8 to 10 of the foul shot differential.

 

SC got their money's worth when they fouled.

 

Don't think one can blame the refs.

How many did Walls and Mackey have?

That still leaves 13-15 difference in foul shots excluding the down the stretch fouls. Also some very questionable calls late (the HHS player stepping out of bounds as well as others)...How about the no call when the HHS player went nose to nose with the official, that should have been a technical easy. The game at Memorial was a better officiated game.

I watched it. The officials were bad.

HHS won the game, but I do think they got the better of it with the officiating. Isn't this the way it often goes in games of this type? The home court team usually has the edge with the referees.

 

Clearly, HHS is a much better team with O.J. Mayo. If O.J. had played tonight, I think HHS would have won by 15, or more, and that is not taking anything away from Scott County. I do think Scott Co. has the better coach.

Officiating favored Huntington, but it did not determine the game. Walls had a solid game, Portwood led the team. Portwood should of got more touches at the end of the 4th quarter. He was on fire.

 

Mackey had 12, played a good game, but didn't shoot the ball well.

Portwood was not in at the end. He fouled out.

Observations first:

- HHS played so much harder tonight than they did in Memorial it didn't seem like the same team.

- The officials were ok. The home team got a couple of breaks, but the home team is supposed to get a couple of breaks. The "out of bounds" call where the outside ref over-ruled the baseline ref and HHS followed with a dunk on the next play was a back-breaking questionable call. The refs let both teams play hard and physical - that style favored HHS tonight.

- HHS was more physical throughout the game. Their guards played seriously sticky D on Walls and Mackey. Their forwards and centers battled for every rebound.

- Scott Co. had terrible shot selection tonight. Lee shooting a 3 with the game on the line??? Warren with a couple of pull up jumpers??? Walls and Mackey forced quite a few shots tonight.

- Patterson made some NICE mid-range jumpers that I didn't think he could hit. 12' bank shots over an athletic Jordan Lee.

- Tubby was there along with Belein (West Virginia University) Marshall's coach was also there.

- I was impressed at how the HHS players interacted with the young kids after the game. They stuck around forever signing autographs and having pictures taken.
