PT's running game with James and also Sherrill was very good tonight. And what about the Tornado defense! They looked bad against McCracken, but they had a couple key guys out. They've now played two outstanding games in a row.

Over a century's worth of history and they're separated by 0.1 points per game.

  • Big blue is really good on BOTH sides of the ball. It stood out to me that their pass coverage by their secondary was very well executed. There were no breakdowns for Mayfield to take advantage of. J

  • I was a freshman at Mayfield, and I was one of the guys who helped run the football from Paducah to Mayfield (26 miles), and we met the bicycle riders on a straight stretch of road on old 45. They mad

James ran the ball like a good running back is supposed to. The Cardinal defenders chased him all night long. Sherrill had some good runs as well. Also, #3 (his name escapes me, but only because I'm trying to forget it 🙂) had some great catches. He caught everything thrown in his direction.

Overall, a great effort from PT against their arch rival, who shall remain nameless. Good job Blue Tornado!

This game went as expected. The eye test of the first two games showed PT was the better team it was only a matter of by how many points.

I don't remember the last time Mayfield got shut out in a half, especially at home. Credit to the PT defense. I was worried when McPike left the game early and Mayfield had the momentum, but several others stepped up for PT to carry the load. James had a wonderful game on the ground for Tilghman.

Any idea how many rushing yards James had?

Mayfield wore down in the 2 half.I noticed several time they were walking back to the line of scrimmage and barely got set before PT was running another play.

Per the Sun article - 202 yards on 19 carries. Pretty solid night!

That is the opposite of what Mayfield has been in the past. Mayfield has always been a second half team.

I've watched Mayfield's first three games. Consistency is the biggest issue IMO. They have looked really good at times, and also looked lost and rudderless. They have some good players, but I don't see a leader emerging. And as already pointed out, they lack depth. Mayfield offense didn't help their defense any by not moving chains enough. Too many snaps on D.

I did like their fight initially, and punching back to tie at 14-14. But that was as good as it got for Mayfield. They ran the ball well at times. When they did pass, I wasn't seeing good balls from the QB WHEN he had time. And more often than not, he had pressure in his face or he was getting sacked. I like the backfield 3 & 40. Right now 14 & 20 are the most reliable pass catchers. Just don't see enough potency yet to think we can hang with the top 3 in Class 2A.

I didn't think PT would be as good this year as they have the past 3 or 4, and they have shown inconsistency kinda like Mayfield. But they are so dang quick strike on offense. Def a demoralizing feeling for any team that is playing them tight, next thing they know its a 2 or 3 score game. They will keep getting better too.
