North Laurel calls its gym "The Jungle."

I seem to recall South Laurel's gym being called "The Nest."

Owsley County- The Palace

Owsley County- The Palace

A little history behind the 'The Palace' term:

That name started in the early 1980's when former Leslie County coach Ron Stidham jokingly called it "The Palace" in a conversation with another coach. Something like, "If you haven't played in the Palace, you're in for an experience."

Some folks overheard him and started referring to it as such. The name probably appeared a few times in the Booneville Sentinel, so some of the students and fans began using the term. Also, the sport's editor of the Beattyville Enterprise, at that time H.B. Elkins, began to use the term in some of his articles, and it has been called that since.

Greenup, dark??? Never noticed that, at all.

Me either, but it has been a while since I've been there. I thought it always had top notch lighting and acoustics.

It is kind of dark.

Since Mason, Fleming, Deming, Augusta and Bracken all have named gyms for when we cover games at each of their places, St. Pat is the only unnamed gym. We here at the office have come up with a few possibilities, though I personally must say "Clover Coliseum" in the first post was real good.

-- Pot of Gold

-- Clover Garden

-- Shamrock Palace

Any other suggestions?

I like the Pot of Gold the best of the three, but Shamrock Palace would be second..

The Garden of Green

How about Sexy Lexy's Place

That's good stuff right there.

I thought we could have a little fun with this thread. What would be the names you would give the gyms in your area. You can use the name they already use or a original one that you like.

Here goes:

Augusta: The Den

Brossart: The Stable

Bracken Co.: The Igloo or The Ice Palace

Campbell Co.: The Desert

Clark Co.: The Nest

Deming.: The Devils Dome or The Pit

Harrison Co.: The Race Track (I know they sometimes call it the stable but since they are the Thorobreds I thought The Race Track would be proper).

Mason Co.: The Royal Palace

Montgomery Co.: The Teepee

Nicholas Co.: The Hive

Paris: The Dog House

Pendleton Co.: The Cat House

Silver Grove: The Depot

St. Pat: The Clover Colosium (sp)

What are some other?

Same could be said for The Paris Greyhounds.

Since I don't get a chance to see a lot of games here in Kentucky, I wanted to thank everyone for posting all these names.

I agree with McPaPa, Pendleton Co and the Cathouse really is hilarious. lol

I posted it on the college thread and I know this is meant for high schools, but Virginia's new basketball arena is called the John Paul Jones arena or as some people on their board wanted to call it: The John : )

What are some gym names in the 14th?, besides The Palace of Booneville.

I've seen Breathitt's gym refered to as the Dome.
