No I am just saying in general you have to be a D1 talent to win the award. Moreno, could have went anywhere and still won the award. It isn't so much about Kentucky as it is the level of talent it takes to win it. My point is there are multiple players with that talent level in the class of 2027.

Do you mean that Brandon Davenport wasn’t committed to a D1 team at the time he was named Mr Basketball?!?! Or do you mean that he never played D1 basketball in his career?? Davenport played for Morehead St under Kyle Macy. A group of us went to a game where he scored 16 points as a freshman in the OVC. I also remember watching him play against UK, on tv, that year. That was Tubby’s National Championship team. I think he scored like 6 points at Rupp. The last person to win Mr Basketball and not play D1 ball was Walt Allen from South Laurel I believe. (AJ Slaughter was in that class btw.)

This is what I get for using Wikipedia, it only highlighted Lindsey Wilson under his profile. Also, Walt Allen played for Presbyterian, they are a D1 school in the Big South conference. Your correction on Davenport, further exemplifies that you have to be a D1 talent to win Mr. Basketball.

I thought Montez Gay was the best player on his team.

Anthony Hickey was not committed when he won Mr. Basketball in 2011.  He committed to LSU after he won the award.  However, that was when voting occurred after the state tournament.  His 4-game performance at Rupp earned him the award, and rightfully so.  

Omari Jointer has he top 3-5 next year from Woodford.

I thought Presbyterian was still D2 when Walt Allen went there.

You are correct, I knew they were D1 just assumed they were when he went there. So, the last kid to win it and not go to a D1 out of high school would be Walt Allen. This is certainly a good Kentucky High School Basketball nugget!

One could make the case that Ryder Akins is the best player on GRC. Either way they are loaded.
