A good old rock fight in the final.  One team has Leek Ateny, the other does not.  He stepped up big in that stretch run, and gave them some separation.  Good effort from the Colts.

It was almost inevitable that it would turn into a rock fight.  Two good defenses anchored by a big man.  Two offenses that worK the ball looking for a good shot.  Both offenses rely on a single three point shooter so you know who to focus on stopping.

Yes, if the draw had been played out as is the West/Boyle Game would've been the first semifinal last night.  The benefit of drawing the opening night games of the tournament is you get the early semifinal, scout the next game and get more rest.  They flip for the Jessamine Co. schools when it is at Pulaski Co. to be the late games where they get out of school so late coupled with the length of travel.  Danville Christian won out big IMO with their draw opponent, and also getting the 1st semifinal.  When you're rolling, things tend to go your way.  I believe when the tournament is at Lincoln Co. they flip game times for Wayne Co. and McCreary Central, but I could be wrong.  I've never understood why they don't put a day of rest in-between the semifinals and finals.  I think you would get a much better product in the championship game.

Championship game was great last year and the championship game was great this year. Of course the games are not gonna be as clean and as efficient this time of year with all the pressure, aches, pains, illness, etc. But the championship game is consistently competitive.

Only game that I remember in recent years that the championship game was a blowout was when Somerset got run out of the gym vs PC a couple years back.  But that was only because Somerset played a triple overtime game with DCA the night before I'm sure.

Don't get on here and say, "when you're rolling things go your way." The draw for DCA last year definitely didn't go their way and they found a way to win. The best team won this year. The best team won last year. Give credit to DCA staff and players for a nice run the last few years. Hard working and selfless group.

Gonna have to grow up one day COY!

DCA has had a fantastic run with really good players.  No one has been more complimentary of them.  I’ve said multiple times Ateny should have been POY.  Titus Boyd led a great run last season, and they’ve had kids step up in big moments.  But, the anchor for them this season has been Ateny.  And, when they needed it in the 4th Q he popped off a few NBA 3s.  Big time shots off of no set situations.  Maybe, will see how they perform without him affecting the games on both ends next season.  Oh wait…how many new starters next season?  Rock fight is not a negative connotation for 12th region HS basketball.  There’s been a ton of them over years that have produced exciting games.  Anyone saying Leek Ateny is not the difference maker needs to take their blinders off, and it’s a slight to the player.  I don’t care if you try to take a shot at me, or whoever you think I am.  I provide analysis for the region throughout the year, and yes I’m an advocate for the traditional method.  Obviously, others are as well based on the poor crowd last night.

Two really good defensive teams.

Leek is the region POY IMO, and I think he showed why last night. He was the difference maker.

Nobody is disputing Ateny's impact. So don't make it about that. Some people have common enough sense to read between the lines dude.  Getting on here acting like the draw is a big reason that DCA was fortunate enough to make it through is not non-biased coverage that you have convinced yourself that you provide.

It didn't  take a genius to figure out that the crowd was gonna be small last night. You got a school that has an enrollment of 75 total high school students vs a school that is known for not supporting teams well. Have you gone to a West Jessamine home game lately? How was the West and Somerset game attended at West? You were there.? And by the way it's an hour and a half drive from West to PC and around an hour from DCA.

I was at the 2020 region championship game at PC that West ultimately won. I was shocked at how poorly attended it was on West's part. Did you see the semifinal game between West and Boyle this year?  Crowd was terribly low.  Don't think low attendance had anything to do with the people boycotting. ?

The DCA versus Mercer championship game was packed last year at Lincoln. Obviously not to the level of a Lincoln versus PC or some of your bigger county/ public schools. It was well attended to say the least.

I know you're hurt bro. But in all honesty you guys had a great season. You had one really big win at DCA. Everybody knows you're a good coach now. Enjoy, you've made it!

So, getting extra rest being the first semifinal game doesn't help?  Especially, with the length of travel both programs have to take.  It absolutely helps, and is complete luck of the draw.  That's a factual statement.

Congrats to DCA. I know several people (casual fans) from Wayne were pulling for them just based on how they treated a special needs basketball team that had the floor between the JV and varsity game when they played at Wayne this season. Ateny was especially gracious to the players.

A lot of people said at the beginning of the season that the 12th was wide open, and I think the season played out that way even though DCA won. DCA was very beatable, but they got it done...props to them.
