The Case for Mr. Basketball Contenders

Featured Replies

Below is a full 16-region MVP efficiency board using the True Shooting % numbers. No estimates. No fluff.

? Mr. Basketball — Full Efficiency + Production Board

? Tier 1 — ELITE (65%+ TS)
Spurlock (Boyd County – RPI #7)
27.8 PPG | 9.0 RPG | 67.6% TS

Woodfork
High-volume scorer | 67.2% TS

McGillis (Cov Cath – RPI #3)
22.9 PPG | 5.2 APG | 55/40/80 splits | 66.0% TS

Feldhaus (Madison Central – RPI #2)
20.5 PPG | 65.8% TS

Moss
23.8 PPG | 65.5% TS

? This is the true separation tier statistically.

? Tier 2 — VERY STRONG (63–64.9% TS)
Phillips — 64.4%
Kirk — 63.8%
Sparrow — 63.8%
Jackson — 63.6%
Johnson — 63.0%
Davidson — 62.4%

High-level Mr. Basketball seasons. Just slightly behind the elite band.

? Tier 3 — GOOD PRODUCTION (58–62% TS)
Crane — ~61%
Mason — ~60%
Harrison — ~59%
Ashford — ~59%
Caudill — 56.5%

Volume is there for some. Efficiency separates them from Tier 1.

? Results When You Apply RPI + Winning Context

Now add team RPI to Tier 1:
• Madison Central — #2
• Cov Cath — #3
• Boyd County — #7

When you combine:
✔ Elite efficiency (65%+)
✔ Real scoring volume
✔ Team strength (RPI)
✔ Role/impact

The true narrowed group becomes:
-Spurlock
-McGillis
-Feldhaus

Woodfork and Moss are elite scorers — but don’t have the same RPI leverage.

? Bottom Line
If the award is:

• Pure scoring dominance → Spurlock

• Complete offensive impact + winning → McGillis

• Best player on highest RPI team → Feldhaus

? What This Really Means
If the award is:

• Best scorer in Kentucky → Spurlock

• Best all-around offensive engine on elite team → McGillis

• Best player on highest RPI team → Feldhaus

That’s the clean breakdown.

Now here’s the honest truth:
-Spurlock has the volume edge.
-Feldhaus has the RPI edge.
-McGillis has the efficiency + playmaking + team strength combo.

And historically?
Mr. Basketball often tilts toward: Elite team + elite efficiency + deep March run.

Which means.... State titles finish arguments.

Certainly, my opinion means little as I am following remotely via BGP, internet, NFHS, Hudl, news outlets, etc.  But, if you were to take Feldhaus, Spurlock, or McGillis off their respective teams what would you have left competitively?  I think CovCath would still find a way out of the 9th.  Ashland (?), don’t know enough about the 16th.  But, take Feldhaus off Madison Central and MC doesn’t get a short trip up I-75, in fact they probably have 10 losses on the season.  Feldhaus just disproportionally impacts his team.  Hate to see this legacy heading to Belmont.

Woodfork was at Paducah Tilghman, has had big senior season at McCracken County.

Based on top post. His TS is 67.2 2nd best of elite scorers. Avg 24.3 ppg. His team is 5th in RPI.

Those numbers would have him in top 5.

Would have liked to seen him with this years PT team.

Forget the deep March run, the voting on this subject ended on 2/27/26.

He's not going to win because of the truncated season, but the best player I've seen this year is Keriawn Berry from North Hardin.

Is he back playing? I picked North Hardin in a Sweet 16 contest bracket.

You're in trouble! LOL

Truncated in the sense that he missed the first part of the season awaiting eligibility.  He is very much playing currently - dropped 31 on Etown the other night.

Not going to lie.  I had to look up that definition.

Davidson was the clear favorite entering the season after his performance at the state tournament last year.

Spurlock has had the best career but it will be a shock if Feldhaus doesn't walk away as Mr. Basketball.

Agree, Davidson was the forerunner, Spurlock is a shooter, Feldhaus is just the better complete package and deserves to win the award. IMO

Is there any way Jake Feldhaus does not win this award?  If so, there is something wrong.

Agreed
