2010 Allen Co. was something to behold. It was three years in the making, and the Patriots' run to the 2010 Finals was magical. I still argue that, if not for the block-in-the-back call that nullified a TD for the Pats, they would have brought the hardware back to Scottsville.

2017 Logan County Cougars!! What a magical year that was. 11-0 to start the season only to lose to Hopkinsville in the second round. 

It has been well documented the struggles of this program.  With Todd Adler in his second year of coaching this team found its identity. I believe everyone in the state was following this team as the wins piled up. This team set up the next 8 plus years to follow.

1977. Rebels won only there 2nd District Title. Started year with early loss to Washington County then were destroyed by Harrodsburg 60-0. There were no real stars on this team that had lost over half their starters from the 10-2 the year before. Rebels rebounded and beat Chris Jones n Danville in the last game to earn enough points to claim the District. They were defeated by a strong Corbin team in the Regional. 
 

1979. Lost over half their starters from the year before. Went 9-1 beating AA semifinal team Washington n Jeff Smith, #2 ranked at the time Harrodsburg, #4 ranked at the time Somerset, AAA District winner 10-1 Lincoln County and Danville. Missed the playoffs because of their loss to Russell County. 
 

DANVILLE

1984 AAA State Champs. 13-0. Duffy’s only unbeaten team and had a varsity roster of about 30 players. Strong Defense that blanked Cov Cath and nearly shutout Hopkinsville in the title game 24-6 Great group of kids. 

The more fun teams from Dayton fun to watch were in the 1990's in my opinion, particularly from about 1993-2000.  Davis Field was very fun being at to watch and as a player from 1993-1998, the atmosphere there was unlike any other.  I'm sure there were other times before this, I'm sure that the sixties and seventies was a fun time for it too.  

Even though I'm from Dayton, I can also say that the Bellevue team from 1990  or 1991 was a fun one to watch too.  I have family and relatives who were part of that team and they were definitely fun to watch.  They made state and lost to Russellville, but that was a very talented team.

We played the 93 team at Paris in the first round of the playoffs. They were 5-5 but had played a tough schedule. We won but they were physical and gave us everything we wanted... and we had a good team. 

My first loss as HFC @ Mason Co. in 1996 was at Dayton. That was a really good football team. Impressive.

Dan Ridder did a super job with that football program.

Saw Mike Harmon (1982 Rebels RB) at dinner last night. Offered him a job coaching at Anderson Co. He turned me down. But, always good to see Mike.  He could play some football and the 1982 Rebels were a good football team.

I got to visit with Coach Duffy once when he was at Highlands and he made reference to this team and the season. Keith Morgan was his QB and Jimmy Baughman was his main RB and they were running a one-back scheme. He told me that he stayed concerned all season about scheme questions and adjustments because it was a different style of offense. 

He said when he was in his 3 back set, he could sleep at night because he already knew all the answers and adjustments he would need to know.

Coach Ridder was very good for Dayton. The year you referred to with Paris was when I played as a sophomore. That was Dayton’s first year in the playoffs since the 70’s. Their 1996 team was by far the best team to not win state, that team very well could have. Whether Dayton had talent or a lack of it, they always played tough and physically under Ridder, no question about that.

Didn't you guys bring like 7 pep busses or something like that in 93? You had a ton of people there. That was a GREAT game. After we played you in 1996, I thought the winner of you and Beechwood would be the Class A State Champ.

We were 2-0 going into the 96 game. That Monday, right before practice, my entire team is standing on the back line of the endzone on the practice field, backs to the gamefield. Remember it like yesterday.

I told my Mason County guys.... "this Dayton team is a tough bunch. Not a bunch of choir boys."

One of my kids, raised his hand and says, "Coach, we're all in the choir."

Yes, the people watching traveled well at that time. I don’t remember how many buses came but a lot of people went to watch back then, whether playing home or away.

I would have been too young to know or watch at the time, but I’ve heard plenty from Boyle and  Lincoln say that Danville’s 1984 team was one of the best that they saw, and that’s including some who’s said it within less than the last 10 years, and a good part of them know football well. I had several relatives who lived between Boyle and Lincoln longer ago and got to know plenty of their friends too. Few of my relatives are still there, definitely made me think of memories with them.

The '96 Dayton team had a chance to go to state had they beat Beechwood in the regional finals. A lot of talent on that team.
