As far as going for 2 goes. If you don’t get it then you are down by 1 with around 2 minutes left and one timeout. Kicker wise Collins has one of best in the state. He has college FG range. Going for 2 really has no advantage at that point compared to the downside. 
 

This next part is not directed at anyone but more as a general statement. Unless you are at practices and truly done the research on opponents you are missing a lot of information. These are HS kids not college and not pros. Things aren’t as simple as some might think. There is a ton of behind the scenes stuff in HS football the general public has no information on. Add to that some individuals football knowledge might not be as high as they think. 
 

It’s because of things like this the profession loses coaches. It’s one of the main reasons I left coaching to work in another field related to coaching.

If they did go for 2, then they still lost by 2, instead of 1 if they did not convert the 2. I don't see where this even really is a topic. Either way Dixie was still going to have to hold Collins offense to less than a field goal.

They lost by 3. So if they don’t get it they lose by 4 on a made field goal or 1 because you went for it. If you go for 2 and don’t get it then Collins doesn’t even need to try to get into field goal range. They just have to run the clock out. 2 minutes, 40 second play clock, opponent has 1 timeout. It’s not either way Dixie has to hold them to a field goal. 
 

Kick the PAT have to hold to FG or less. 
Go for 2 and get it have to hold to FG or less. 
Go for 2 and not get it. Pretty much game over. 
 

Statistically speaking you go for 1. It forces the other team to actually have to move the ball. Collins would need to get to the 30-35 yard line. Longer field goals are lower trajectory kicks making them easier to block.

Saw the highlights of this one... my goodness what a game. 

I get both ways going for 2 or not.  I'd be more of risk taker, so I personally would've gone for 2, but it's easy to second guess after the fact.

Support Coach’s decision to tie with almost 4 minutes left.  Collins ran 85 plays and were stopped by Dixie 13 times on 3rd down and 3 times on 4th down plus a couple of turnovers on fumbles.  That’s a lot of plays and chances for either a Dixie stop or Collin’s turnover.  If either happens DH had proven quick strike scores the whole 2nd half.  Just got to give Collins, Coach Lucas, and Cade Goodin credit for a classic game winning drive.
