One year delay for some JCPS field renovations

Featured Replies

The new plan is to start renovations at Atherton, Butler, Eastern, Fairdale, Southern and Valley high schools next summer, with the goal of having them done by the 2027 fall sports season.

Renovations have been finished or are in the process of being finished at Shawnee, Central, Jeffersontown, Moore, Pleasure Ridge Park, Doss, Fern Creek, Male, Manual and Waggener high schools. Info from above CJ article.

“district leaders blaming increased construction costs”

Do the “leaders” think that delaying will LOWER the costs?

That is not happening.

Probably not, but if the money isn't there, it isn't there.

Yeah well I have questions then.

Why isn’t the money there? This was a long term project that was supposed to be completed at ALL JCPS High Schools.

Seems like the money would have been appropriated/earmarked WAY ahead of the actual project?

They're a public institution and subject to open records, you can research the answer to every question you have. Depending on the how long term the project has been, it's very well possible they didn't earmark enough. Since 2020, construction supplies have gone up an average of 37%. Construction wages have increased by around 20%.

Thanks

I have my doubts about how money is spent by bureaucracies. My delving into such isn’t going to change the fact that theses schools/kids got the short end of the stick.

I’ll say I just did a quote on a tile job 3 weeks ago and the price to order it Friday was almost double the original price.

I ordered materials for a bathroom remodel last Friday. They told me I saved a lot getting the order in Friday as big price increases were coming today.

This is price gouging, plain and simple.

Price gouging or not, I would say it’s not crazy to wonder if that is a reason behind it.

Completely agree.

WLKY reported Manual is getting a video score board.
