What a remarkable year it has been for the 10th region! As the season kicked off, Campbell County and GRC emerged as the clear favorites to claim the regional crown. However, as the season progressed, Montgomery County gained a true point guard after resolving eligibility issues, adding new dynamics to the competition. On paper, it still appears to be a two-team race, but now between GRC and Montgomery County. Nevertheless, we should never count out the Camels. Brent Sowder, coming from the Aric Russell coaching tree, has dedicated the entire year to ensuring the Camels are performing at their best when it matters most—during districts and regionals.

District Tournament Picks:

37th District- at Scott High School
Campbell County and Calvary are set to tip off at 5:30 on Tuesday, followed by Bishop Brossart facing off against Scott immediately afterward. In their matchup, Campbell County takes an early lead, resting their starters against Calvary. Meanwhile, the Mustangs narrowly defeat the Eagles in a thrilling contest. Thursday’s championship game will culminate with the Camels proudly hoisting yet another championship trophy, while the Mustangs secure a vital regional berth.

38th District- at Harrison County High School
Harrison County will face off against Robertson County at 6:00 on Tuesday, followed by Nicholas County taking on Pendleton County immediately after. Harrison County efficiently handles Robertson, while Pendleton secures a hard-fought victory over Nicholas in a close contest. I believe Coach Monroe will successfully maintain the momentum, leading Pendleton County to triumph over Harrison in the championship game on Friday night.

39th District- at Mason County Fieldhouse
On Tuesday night at 6:00, Augusta effortlessly defeats St. Patrick. In the second game of the evening, Mason County also dominates Bracken County, setting the stage for an exciting rematch between Augusta and Mason County on Thursday night. Earlier this year, Augusta achieved a notable victory over Mason County, marking their first regular-season win against them since the 1990s. I believe that with Mason County at full health and their flu-related challenges behind them, they will pull away in the fourth quarter to secure yet another district championship trophy for their collection.

40th District- at Paris High School
On Tuesday night at 5:30, GRC concludes Paris' season with a decisive victory. In the second game of the evening, Montgomery County also sends Bourbon County home, setting the stage for a matchup that has the potential to be the eventual regional final. GRC and Montgomery County will face off on Thursday night for the district crown. I believe that GRC will narrowly edge out Montgomery County once again; however, they must not underestimate them as just another team on the schedule, as they are likely to encounter them again in the future.

Best matchups, at least on paper.

A.  Clark - Montgomery, and it isn’t close.  Get to Paris real early for a puncher’s chance at grabbing a ticket.

2.  Augusta - Mason.  Season series split, looks like Mason’s influenza woes are behind them.

D.  Pendleton - Nicholas.  This one gets the nod over the 38th final simply because the first-round loser goes home.

The 10th is admittedly down, but there is some exciting hoops to be played.  And the eventual winner gets a very favorable draw in the Sweet 16.

Here are my picks:

37th: Campbell and Scott

38th: Harrison and Pendleton

39th: Mason and Augusta

40th: GRC and Montgomery

Best semi final games.. Scott vs Brossart very even matched game.  I will go with Scott since they play at home.

Pendleton vs Nicholas county.  This game should be a great game as well.

In the first Brossart - Scott game were both teams at full strength?

Not sure.. 1st game was at Brossart, but going by like opponents and this game being at Scott is why I am giving a slight edge to Scott.  Both teams are very evenly matched.

Most - if not all - Brossart starters sat out beginning of the game- Brossart was in a hole that they never recovered from.

Not sure if Scott was full strength or not- I assume they were.

Scott won 56 to 45.

Yeesh... I want no part of whatever happened for you to sit all of your starters in a district seed game. Although, it didn't really matter... the two were going to play one another anyway.

Very true.  It only mattered who was home on the scoreboard.

Not that it matters.. but I checked my source after last night game.  Scott had a few players including their head coach out sick.

After I hit submit I remembered that Coach Fromeyer wasn't there either.

Is this the game Brossart sat some players for violating a team rule?

All that aside, tonight's game should be a good one.
