New additions include Meade County, Eastern, Tates Creek, and Corbin. Tough schedule on paper but necessary for a 5A program trying to take the next step.

Lot of good RPI upgrades for the Dragons.  Interested to hear your take on this team here BBN!

Feels like South Oldham has been right on the doorstep for years, hovering in that 6-10 ranked area. Would be nice to see them make the jump into the semifinals and maybe beyond.

The 2024 edition of South Oldham put together an under the radar solid season. They were a last second TD away from a district title in a very tough district. They battled 5A runner up Cooper for about 85% of the game. To put it lightly, in 2025 offensively the Dragons lose a lot. Graduation of Julian Miles and Ethan Arnold accounts for 1000 yards passing, almost 1200 yards on the ground and 600 yards receiving between the QB and Slot duo. The stats do not do this duo justice. By the end of the season these two young men WERE the South Oldham offense. 4/5 Offensive Lineman are gone to graduation and your number two receiver in Max Madsen. On the positive side, they return Fullback Kole Greenwell and Slot Evan Hickerson who have been major contributors offensively over the past two seasons. Hickerson battled injuries this past season and was limited but had a strong sophomore campaign in 2023. I expect Adrian Miles to get the start at QB where he was playing rotationally to start the year. Defensively there is much better outlook. The Dragons return 3/4 starting Defensive Lineman headlined by Louisville commit DL Sam Dawson who will be a 4 year starter. 3/4 Defensive Backs return and one inside linebacker. This team will without a doubt be built around tough defensive play. I expect the Dragons to overall take a slight step back from 2024 but will be competitive in most games they play. The overall team numbers are up in Crestwood and I think they are a couple years away from being a real factor in 5A.

Coach Sams tweeted out a slight change to the schedule today. The Week 11 game vs. Corbin has switched and South Oldham is hosting Bryan Station now instead. This jives with the Bryan Station schedule that showed up on Hudl back a few weeks ago.

The South Oldham offensive coaching staff will look different this season. Just found out that not only has Jamie Reed taken over as Head Coach of Oldham County, but QB coach Brad Heflin and OLine coach Carey Figg have joined the OC staff. They coached with Reed at South Oldham for several years.
This is in no way a reflection on Coach Sam’s or the Dragon program. I believe those three coaches are good friends and just wanted to coach together again.
I think those three are good coaches and people, and I wish them good luck, but my heart will always be with the Dragons first!!

Going to the scrimmage vs FD. It will be interesting to see where they are at now with new coaches along several new starters on offense!
Also excited to see a few of the players our son played with on the 2015-2017 teams are now coaches! I’m getting old! ?
