Not sure on why Goodin transfered but the other 2 had more to do with parents that the kids.  Now that is just my opinion and for what I have seen and been told.

Don’t forget that they also lost another good (sophomore)  player over the summer when the Sexton kid went to Mercer. It was expected that be would be a contributor for Boyle this year and then likely their starting point guard the next two years.

But beyond those 4 sophomores, it is worth noting that they’ve had zero points scored by a junior this year. Of the 15 players that have gotten in a varsity game, there’s only been 1 junior. Their top 3 players in that junior class also quit basketball over the past couple years (they still attend Boyle).

As far as Gooden, he has started all year, was averaging double figures, and was arguably their most skilled offensive player. He was their best 3 point shooter, which they definitely needed, but could also get in the lane. I would have expected either he or Driver to have been their second leading scorer (behind Brown) given their current roster. Definitely a kid they can’t afford to lose this year, and even more so the next two years.

I def think it would be tight, but Maroons are coming together.  Very impressed in their win over South Laurel.

I know you are close to the program and would obviously be exposed to that side of it but, if you just look at the sheer numbers, it tells a story.

Also, that doesn’t jive with what I’ve heard. For those 2 players or for the other 5 soph/juniors that I referenced. I will grant you that a lot of parents around the program haven’t been pleased for a while, and that unhappy kids generally leads to disgruntled parents. But from what I know and what I have been told, I truly believe all of those were player driven decisions.

In addition to this discussion about who isn’t there this season, I can think of at least 6 kids that quit during the season last year. And I don’t think any left Boyle at that time.

As I remember it Goodin and Hager were both at DCA for at least part of middle school.  I can't remember exactly when they made the transition to Boyle but Hager played some varsity in the 8th grade so it was before then.  DCA is so small you see everyone from K-12 in the course of a day so it's easy to get them mixed up.

This is just my opinion but getting kids to their senior year, especially in a decent sized public school, is one sign of a healthy program.  And, by getting them to their senior year I'm not talking about sitting on the bench and clapping for the other guys.  I'm talking about fundamentally sound players who can contribute.  If your feeder system is good starting in middle school and going on up through 9th grade and JV level they should be able to contribute.  

Girl's coaches are notorious for what I call "talent mining" in that they'll pick out the top 2 athletes in the 7th grade and play them up.  If you take 2 kids from each class going from 7-12 you've got your 12 players.  They spend very little developing their players so the rest of the kids get frustrated and quit.

I'm still trying to think of the 6 that quit basketball last year but and it could be 6 but I can't think of them.

Bixler, Hagar, McPherson, Richards is four off the top of my head.

Kain Logan & Jakeem Ray are two more that I can think of, making at least 6. I also think Ethan Milburn started out playing but may not have made it past preseason. He’s a junior (this year) that played basketball all along and was the best player in that class. He is still at Boyle and would have been a big help for this year’s team but didn’t even come out this year.

What is going on at Boyle? Why the transfers?

Bixler was pretty much released from team McPherson, Richards and Hager quit to concentrate on football.  The last 3 said that was the reason for them leaving the team.
