The part that I find extremely funny is that, when we are talking about the overall record between Ashland and Russell, the old games are "ancient history", but the game played earlier this year has some magical value. You can't have it both ways. If you want to use the bragging rights from a game played two months ago, fine - but then you have to acknowledge the bragging rights for GIAT, based on total overall record.

 

Like you, I also don't think that the outcome of a game played twenty, thirty, or forty years ago has much of anything to do with the outcome of the next matchup. Unlike you, I'm also capable of understanding that the games played last night are now also history. The difference in "ancient" history and "recent" history is immaterial in terms of the next game. If the outcome of a game two months ago meant anything, then no one would ever schedule a "home and home" series.

 

So, in answer to your direct question, I live in Oldham County. In answer to your implied point, I live in a world where your win two months ago has no more value than our advantage in the overall record. You know - that place called reality.

Back to the game. I did not get to attend but listened on the radio. It sounded like a typical Russell game. Get everything going in your favor and then get out hustled and out executed down the stretch.

 

I think this team has the most talent in the region without a doubt but they seem to get complacent when the get a lead or know they have an advantage.

 

Ironton is always a tough place to win but failure to get rebounds when the other team is shooting free throws would just seem to indicate lack of effort or focus.

 

Blair played with the flu but that is no excuse. Somebody has to get Gill involved in the offense if this team wants to repeat as region champions. There are too many games where he seems to be forgotten.

Games played in the same season with the same players and coaches are a much more relevant barometer than the 1960 or 1976 or 1996 or 2000 whatever team did. However it does not predict in many cases who will win the next game. You must factor in revenge, injuries, lineup changes, momemtum and such. At any rate Russell, Ashland and Elliott County appear to be the favorites right now, in no particular order.

What does Rose Hill have to do with it. You better worry about your own school and not Rose Hill's but on the other hand, you do have ties to every school.

Shooterx3, you claim it is all about the "Match Ups", that is what is wrong with basketball in general, its one thing to recognize a mismatch during the game but match ups fuels the mentality that the game is one on one, thats why there are so many good players taking bad shots, even if a player makes the shot doesnt necessarily mean it was a good shot. Have you ever played or coached before? its about the mismatch not the match ups. Who wants to go see a match up between Barker and Thomas? I would rather watch them perform in the flow of a game played between Fairview and Ashland (examples here) That Russell mentality of Match Ups is why Russell will not return to the State Tournament.

Anything else would be folly.

 

The truth is that both teams will approach the game with the same mindset - "we must play well to win, and if we play well, we have a chance to win".

 

Of course, using your logic, it would appear that when Russell plays Ashland, Boyd County, Rose Hill, Greenup, Raceland, or Elliott County again, they will assume that the win is guaranteed, based on the previous games outcome.
