There may not be a better union in sports than the players association in the MLB. The verbiage that allows these contracts is insane, and it's gotten so out of hand there is almost no way to pull it back in. 

With that said, I absolutely support more money going to players and less to owners. The owners need to make money, but the ones who just line their own pockets more and more should be out of sports. 

The part I hate the most is that these costs get passed off to fans. We talk about how we need to expose our youth to baseball, but we price families out of going.

According to the interwebs, the Reds are valued at 1.255B.  The Mets just signed a player for 765M.   The Reds total Salaries are projected to be around 101M, Soto for the Mets will make 51M.  Baseball is broken.  Without a Salary cap we are schedule fodder except for the once every 20 years a small market team finds enough talent to compete.  This is starting to feel like College Football where 20 schools will get every 5 star because they can pay them significantly more.

That won't be an issue with this contract.  There is zero deferred money in this one.  The Mets will be finished paying him when he's 41 or he retires.  

Saw a stat today.  The Mets are into Soto for more money than the Pirates and the A's have paid their entire rosters, for the past decade.
