February 7, 200719 yr Why don't you start a thread on that? In my Sunday School class we are currently talking about this very thing. Maybe I could garner some opinions on here to throw at them. As for what you said, I would take it a step further...it seems to me that the Scriptural evidence leaves no doubt about Heaven being on Earth. Are you using Randy Alcorn's Heaven book? Very interesting book. Parts are hard to read and it is lengthy, sitting here in front of me, it is over 500 pages in length. We used it in a Bible Study 2-3 years ago. And I agree with your last point.
February 7, 200719 yr First bolded....and whom teaches you. Just your reliance on reading the Bible? I love going to the D-Groups, Bible studies of those who have been studying the Bible for a long time and listen to their knowledge of the Bible. I DON'T take it as absolute knowledge but consider what they say, study it and come to my own views. Sometimes it matches their views. I do absolutely agree that the number 1 responsibility of teaching your family falls on the parents with dad taking the spiritual lead. I think there is ample evidence that we will do more than worship in a sense of singing. We will worship through serving him, just like we do here on Earth. Revelations 7:15 and 22:3 both call those in Heaven servants who will serve Him day and night. And BTW, for another thread, there is strong Scriptural evidence that Heaven will be here on Earth. You are right, we will do more in heaven than worship. Worship is the essence of Heaven. Man was created to have a personal relationship with God and we were created to worship Him but you are very right about us doing more than worship, sorry, I might have been sleepy while posting that..ha ha About, who teaches me? Thats like saying who teaches your pastor, who teaches your Sunday School teachers? I think you might have missed what I was saying or I just didnt post it the right way. We often take the verse of scripture found in Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Before I go on...I want your Interpretation of what this verse means. Do not research it before you post, just type. I am curious if you have been brainwashed as much as I was. Just type my fair lady, just type and lets see if we are on the same page.
February 7, 200719 yr The Greek phrase "work out" denotes the expression of something one already possesses. . No, it does not. Someone has given you bad information.
February 7, 200719 yr Jesus said..."upon this rock, I will build my Church". That ends that part. Would a true Christian not go to Church?
February 7, 200719 yr We often take the verse of scripture found in Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. . First I notice that it does not say teach. Teach if for a person to learn the material. It says train. Train is where they are physically doing something until it becomes a habit. Something they do without thought, without consideration. I would hope that I am training my children to serve the Lord as a habit. One they expect to do naturally. Not that they do it robotically. But they don't question and wander from where the Lord is calling them as Jonah did at the beginning and then had to be "redirected." I notice that it says when he is old, he will not depart from it. It would have been very easy for this proverb to have said "train up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it." But it doesn't so that "when he is old" part must have some important meaning. I have heard it taught that the Lord knew that there would be occassions for someone in their youth to question or turn away. But as they grew older and wiser (?)they would return to their habits of youth. This last paragraph I have not worded well, so please don't hold my failings against the mindset. Jesus said it much better with the parable of the Prodigal Son.
February 7, 200719 yr Jesus said..."upon this rock, I will build my Church". That ends that part. Would a true Christian not go to Church? Didn't Dan Brown indicate that was Mary Magadelene. :sssh: :irked: Forgot that was just fiction.
February 7, 200719 yr No, it does not. Someone has given you bad information. Let me shed some light on this passage found in Philippians 2:12, the word "Work" comes from the Greek word chere' meaning to evacuate the bowels, excrement -dung I personally take this to mean,..Get the Crap out of your Life" and serve the Lord. I am sure that you will have your own opinion but that is mine.

February 7, 200719 yr No, it does not. Someone has given you bad information. I would think Paul may have written "work for" instead of "work out" if he were trying to imply that we earn our salvation with works. But, no matter...if you'd read on to verse 13 Paul writes, "for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." That says to me that works done by a saved person are because of God working through them. And, if you want to compare that verse to some other things Paul wrote concerning salvation, he would be contradicting himself to interpret any other way... Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work. Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. 2 Timothy 1:9 ...who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began... Titus 3:4-7 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Again, maybe I'm missing something, but Paul seems to repeatedly stress the point of salvation by grace through faith alone. Our works are merely proof of our faith and salvation, not a means to attain or keep it. Other verses strongly imply that our good works will be rewarded by something, but salvation. That only comes from Christ.

We used it in a Bible Study 2-3 years ago. And I agree with your last point. We aren't using the book in the class, but I have the book. I've read about half of it, and I agree, it's hard to read it for extended periods of time. Anyway, our pastor had mentioned to us to think about what Heaven would be like and study some verses about it a few months ago, but he never really followed up on it. I started reading the book, and when we ended our last study topic, I just mentioned that as an option and it went from there. It's been pretty interesting...of course, you have to define which "stage" of Heaven you're focusing on...the current Heaven, the Millennial Kingdon, or the New Heaven and New Earth...as he discusses in the book.

February 7, 200719 yr Now you didn't give me any minutes, you said sit and type. Turnabout is fair play. Training up a child refers to the overall total process of forming, shaping and molding a child's life. The word train as you have mentioned does not connote the idea of teaching or even disciplining a child (even though that is part of it). The word train comes from the Hebrew word chanak implying to "Put into one's Mouth", and suggest the thought of conditioning the palate. Simply put, we should help our children develop a taste for the things of God. Balancing Love and Discipline. When he is old refers to the maturation process of child, which is different for everyone. I want to throw this in and make it clear. I AM NOT against church, Sunday School, Bible Study. I am there. My father has been a Minister for over 40 years. He took us to church every time the doors were open. I once remember a revival in 70's in Argillite, KY. that my dad and another minister was holding...it lasted over 6 weeks and more than 100 people were saved and baptized during that time, btw..I went every night. I do the same to my children...they go every time the doors are open. I am all for the Local Church Building and us gathering to learn and worship God. But the truth of it is this. I learned more about God from my father at our home then I did while at church. I watched him give when we didnt have it, and him tell us kids to sit back and watch God work and God did, I seen him carry burdens for others and go out back in the woods and fall on his knees in prayer, I seen him literally do physical work with and for his neighbors that he didnt have to do but he did anyway, never have I seen anything un-christian about him, no he is not perfect (Mom can tell you that) My point is that so many people fail to live the good chrisitan life in front of their children and they rely upon the church to teach their kids. Thank goodness that there are numerous churches that do reach out and lead children to salvation but that responsibility is laid first at the feet of the parents not the church. IMO, this also is a Millstone point. What this verse stresses is that Godly principles and Biblical practices and Education does in the home is that it forms a man for the rest of his life. When I was growing up my hero was my dad because of his relationship to the Lord and his love for others. Not even church is a substitute for what children can learn in the home. Because of what my parents taught me in the home. I have been a student of God's Word for over 35 years and I am still studying, we never arrive down here. I learn something new everyday. I raise my children in church. But I just feel we put so much emphasis on attending church that sometimes we miss the point. Out of seven churches that Jesus addressed in Revelation, only two of them were on the right track, the other five were...lets just say not in good standing with the General Superintendent. BTW, this is off the top of my head a little side notes. It takes me so long because I am a horrible typist. 15 words a minute if I am lucky.
February 7, 200719 yr  That's some good advice whether I believe that's what he's saying or not. :thumb: To really study and rightfully divide God's Word, you must and I do not like using that word, but it really is a must...to study and learn the ORIGINAL Hebrew and Greek meanings of the text. There are things that have been translated that when studying the original Hebrew and Greek it just gives you a whole different meaning.
