Would someone explain to me in "Old-Man English" what this means to me.

I sure more money out of my pocket.  We have discussed the continued expanded money-grabbing in other threads.  I'm sure that this is more of the same.

Hopefully, wherever they land, it will be without John Sadek and "Our Captain" Barry Larkin.  Insert "Throwing Up" emoji

I have Alta-Fiber, which is also awful, and for which I pay $175 monthly for cable and internet.so what will I need to do to watch them???

Breaking: MLB will produce and distribute Cincinnati Reds games for TV.

Per MLB:

MLB will produce and distribute local games for the Cincinnati Reds during the 2025 season. The new arrangement will give more Reds fans in the Club’s home television territory the opportunity to watch games on television or to stream digitally with no blackouts for locally distributed games.

The Reds had an average reach of 1.1 million households on its RSN during the 2024 season. With MLB’s direct-to-consumer streaming option, Cincinnati’s games will be able to reach approximately 13.5 million homes across seven states in their region.

Last month, MLB announced it would produce and distribute local games in 2025 for the Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers, and Minnesota Twins in similar fashion to how the league serviced the Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, and San Diego Padres during the 2024 season. Last season, MLB negotiated cable and satellite distribution agreements and made direct-to-consumer streaming options available at Dbacks.TV, Padres.TV, and Rockies.TV.

“Major League Baseball is proud to serve fans of the historic Cincinnati Reds franchise by expanding the reach of their games and removing blackouts for fans in its expansive territory,” said Noah Garden, MLB Deputy Commissioner, Business and Media. “Reds fans will enjoy high-quality production, improved picture quality and greater access to the game and their favorite team’s players.”

"Partnering with Major League Baseball ensures a bright future for our televised game coverage," said Phil Castellini, Reds President and CEO. "This collaboration provides fans with unprecedented access to Reds games, including direct-to-consumer streaming with no blackouts, while maintaining traditional cable and satellite TV options. Local games produced by MLB last year included special features normally associated with nationally televised games including Ump Cam, live look-ins to the MLB Replay Operations Center, Wire Cam, on-field locations for pregame and postgame, new RF camera with a shallow depth-of-field look, and increased access like in-game interviews with players.

Since 2009, Major League Baseball has owned and operated MLB Network, which has produced live games for 16 seasons, been critically praised for its content, and won 42 National Sports Emmy Awards across 13 different categories. Major League Baseball was the first professional sports league to live-stream a regular season game on August 26, 2002. In 2024, baseball fans streamed 14.5 billion minutes of live baseball games and content on MLB.TV, a record for the service.

I assume you are going to have to pay MLB.com.

What is your beef with Altafiber?

The Padres I believe had a similar arrangement with MLB TV. The price for streaming Padres games only and not the MLBTV package was around $19.99 a month or $99.99 for the season.

I'll gladly pay this to watch the Reds all season. I've only seen a handful of games over the last decade due to being with providers that didn't offer Fox Ohio or Bally's.

Altafiber just sent me this email:

We are writing to inform you of an important change to our channel lineup. Starting November 26, 2024, altafiber will no longer offer FanDuel Sports Ohio (formerly known as Bally's Sports Ohio) on our channel lineup. This comes as a result of the Cincinnati Reds' decision to terminate their broadcast rights agreement with FanDuel Sports Ohio's parent company, Diamond Sports Group.

A judge recently approved bankruptcy plans for Diamond Sports Group and as a result, the Cincinnati Reds, along with six other teams, have decided to have their games produced and televised locally through Major League Baseball in 2025. While we will not be keeping FanDuel Sports Ohio in our lineup, altafiber will be negotiating a carriage agreement directly with Major League Baseball starting in December to carry a Cincinnati Reds channel. Does this mean I can actually see Reds games this year on YouTubetv? I haven’t got to see the Reds the last few years, since YouTube tv didn’t have Bally sports.

As long as Youtube has a MLB option I would think so.

"He (Manfred) will also need approval from the players’ union. The Players Association does not control how MLB uses its TV rights, but it does have a say in revenue sharing between teams. The current CBA between owners and players expires in December 2026. This ultimately means that 2026 and 2027 will be crucial years when baseball television and labor issues collide."

Maybe MLB can finally reason with the PA to level the playing field which will make better financial sense for most all the teams (Minus the NY teams and LA) which in turn will benefit more of the players.

I will be shocked, and happy were they to pull this off, at no additional cost to we Altafiber subscribers.

My experience with Altafiber is that they drop channels, I.e., the Paramount channels, and then send these notices out on a regular basis saying that they are "negotiating."

Whatever transpires, I do hope that we are provided the ability to watch the Reds in 2025 without being money-gouged by these "providers."

You forgot raising rates the whole time. 

Because the Reds cut ties, Altafiber has removed the channel from their lineup.  Went to watch an NKU basketball game the other night and got a blue screen with the message.

I don't know if they officially have one, I just know they occasionally would air NKU games.  But it was real hit or miss on which ones.   Certainly wasn't all of them.
