Should be a nice one. Rockcastle will likely be relying heavily on the ground game with Isaiah Jackson and Carter Powell having nearly 2,000 yards combined along with 23 touchdowns on the ground. Jackson especially can be deadly - he also leads the team in receiving and has a touchdown via special teams. I suspect that Rockcastle will try to control the clock and keep Belfry's offense off the field as they have been one of 3A's top offenses to this point. Rockcastle can throw, but they don't do it often. It looks like Camden Larkey has played at QB some lately, but Caden Lovell has a touchdown in almost 1 of every completions he makes. So they can throw.

Belfry is near identical on the rushing end. Jeremiah Austin, JB Woolum, and Ace Caudill combine for nearly 2,500 rushing yards and 38 touchdowns. Chase Varney can be a threat at QB, and he has no hesitancy throwing deep to Cayden Varney who averages nearly 28 yards per reception with 6 touchdowns. This Belfry team has shown no hesitancy in throwing the football as Coach Haywood called on Chase Varney to throw 30 times against rival Johnson Central earlier this season. I imagine this to be a great matchup between two tough teams that will be slugging it out!

Playing at Pond Creek in November is not like playing Pineville, Frankfort, and Paris.  Belfry 41-20.

Using Calpreps, the best opponent for Rockcastle County this season is Bell County. Second best is Paris.

Calpreps rates Belfry opponents Johnson Central, Pikeville, and George Rogers Clark as better than Bell County and only Knox Central (playoffs), Estill County, Powell County, and Magoffin County (all three in district) as lower than Paris, Rockcastle's second best opponent. Bottom line, every single opponent Belfry purposefully scheduled is better than even the best scheduled by Rockcastle.

Games aren't won on the computer and I have no doubt Rockcastle County will give Belfry a good effort, but I can't foresee a situation in which the Rockets put any kind of scare into the Pirates.

Rockcastle's record the past 2 seasons has been built on a creampuff schedule.  The only wins in the regular season that they have against playoff teams, that have advanced past the first round was Bell County last season, and Paris this season. Since Paris played Frankfort in the first round this season, one of the Rockets 1A opponents had to advance.  Calpreps has the game 38-20 in favor of the Pirates on a neutral site. Pond Creek is not a neutral site. A solid 3 score win for Belfry sounds about right.

Less than 24 hours until we find out if Rock can do what everyone in Rockcastle believes they can and will do! Appears everyone thinks Rock has no chance but from what I am hearing Rock is taking fans on school buses while the football team heads to Pond Creek on a charter bus. We believe and after tomorrow night the team will make believers out of the pirates and everyone else. Rock can play with anyone on the East side of the bracket and has as good of a shot to make it to state as does Belfry Bell or Lex Cath. Rock is peaking at the best time of the year both on offense and defense. Completely healthy and eager to kickoff the pigskin! Rock has two 1,000 yard rushers in Jackson (1,178 and 15TD) and Powell(1,007 14TD) Rock has a stout defense that prides itself in sacking the QB and forcing turnovers both via fumbles (12) and interceptions(11). Rock has 5 defensive players that are ranked in top 50 in 3A in sacks led by Creed Gabbard who has 12 sacks. Rock has 117 tackles for loss on the season to go along with the 47 sacks. Rock defense is ranked number 4 overall in team defense in 3A and will be ready for Belfry tomorrow. While we all know Belfry is the favorite and the game will be played on the road to say Rock will get blowed out I just don’t see that happening.

I will take Rock in the “UPSET”

Better pack a lunch, you won't have time time sack the QB. Rocks pathetically weak schedule will show tomorrow night and will provide them with a long but comfortable bus ride home.

I’m sure they won’t have a problem riding in their charter bus they will be real comfortable and you can complain about the schedule all you want but that will just make it that much better when they still show they are more than capable of winning. Best of luck looking forward to the ride to and from Pond Creek!

I am in the camp this will be a closer game than most. I don't have much trust in the Belfry defense. I think Rock will get theirs and put up points and keep this very competitive. I do think Befry's offense will give Rockcastle more than they want and Belfry's team speed will be a problem for the Rockets.

With that said, it is kind of ironic that Rockcastle is proudly riding charter buses to Belfry when the criticism of them they are trying to buck is they have taken the easy and comfortable path to their success.

Ultimately the question entering the game comes down to "Is the Rock really soft?"

Belfry 35

Rock 26
