Kentucky 123 Kentucky Wesleyan 52 (Exhibition)

The first win for UK under new head coach Mark Pope. Kentucky looked pretty good overall. It will be interesting to see how they match up with SEC speed and physicality when it comes time. But with that said, this isn't a young team so I don't think they'll be intimidated by those matchups. A fun warmup game to watch.

Kentucky shot 50% from 3 on 21 of 42. Also had 8 players in double figures.

That was fun to watch. This team definitely will play free on offense and be exciting. There will be some days like this where they are hot as can be. There will be days where they shoot all kinds of threes even when missing, which probably will frustrate some. However, at the end of the day it will be fun to watch and I do think they are better than what their current ranking is.

I am glad we have basketball back.

Last year's team would have barely won! Glad UK is back to playing great basketball! Should be a fun season!

It was really encouraging to me:

1.  Saw more defensive concepts/defensive fundamentals displayed last night than in many years, staying in a stance, angles, rotations, help-recover, guarding the ball, defending pick and roll (and more!!)

2.  So refreshing to watch somebody coach/teach during the game!!

32 assists to 5 turnovers. That will win you every game.

Not very much opposition to make a decision on how this team will perform this season.

True to a point, beat UL last year in s scrimmage and returned 5 of top 6

I was more interested in the way they did things than who they were doing them against

Agreed. The style of play, tempo, passing, shooting etc had all been talked uo but it was nice to see it on the floor. I was impressed with their defense. I'm not saying it is without flaws, but it's better than I expected out an up tempo high volume shooting team.

Lastly, it was fun to watch Pope. I don't think I've ever watched him coach before. He definitely has a very different sideline demeanor than what Kentucky has had in the past, and that's going back all the way to probably Pitino. Granted this is just one sample size for Pope's coaching style. Perhaps during conference play we will see some more emotion, I'm perfectly fine if we don't though because everyone knows his passion for the team and the program is there.

Louisville was about on the same level as they were last season, I’m very excited about this team but just can’t make a distinction about them yet.
