Second Half Run Lifts Cats Past Vols

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky got five of its 11 3-pointers as part of a 20-2 run as the Wildcats capitalized on the absence of All-America candidate Chris Lofton to pull away from rival Tennessee 76-57 Sunday afternoon.

Without Lofton, the Maysville, Ky., native who leads the Southeastern Conference in scoring average, the Volunteers (14-7, 2-4) not only couldn't answer the bigger Wildcats' inside game but also got beat from outside.

Kentucky (16-5, 5-2) led 47-46 with 10 minutes left when the Wildcats' shooters started doing their best Lofton impersonation - hitting long-range buckets with regularity.

Funny how the first few paragraphs point out UT's absence of Lofton when we were supposed to be celebrating a victory. At least some UK fans are intelligent enough not to brag over a V against a team without one of the league leaders in SCORING in the SEC. :sssh:

82% of the Cats fans are intelligent enough to take a double digit win and be happy with it! :sssh:

10 losses? I dont see back to back 10 loss seasons, I see at most maybe 9. I actually interesed who all dont you count as losses. Surely I hope you not saying LSU, Alabama would be losses, because I mean have you seen how they have been tearing it up lately? Then Georgia is a team we will get at home, then Vandy well we due to beat Vandy sooner or later after losing 3 in a row. We beat UT last year with a worse UK team and better UT at UT, so we can very easily do it again. UF now that would be two hard games to win I admit. But from watching this team this year, do you really think they will lose most of those games I mentioned? This team has shown they can be really good team, then I know they have shown they can be a bad team. But you have to think as the year goes on the team will keep improving and do even better...

I do respect what you say as opposed to a lot of others but im factoring in 10 losses (dont forget NCAA/SEC tourney L's if we have them, on the total record). We will evaluate it later. Maybe I will be wrong.

UK fans may be let down when we go up against other SEC teams with a healthy lineup. But if you guys look at it like this, maybe everyone will get hurt.

SA, I really don't get you. In the predictions thread you say this was a must win game for the Cats. They get the win, one that you also said they would need a miracle to get (with or without Lofton), and yet you still discredit what they did, because it was without Lofton playing.

:thumb: Here is my take, I think we will lose 5 games AT MOST in the SEC regular season, then if we dont win the SEC tournament that is a loss. So at most I would see 9 losses going into the NCAA tournament, and then yeah if we lose in the NCAA it will be another 10 loss season. However I am not counting on losing in the NCAA tournament this year, I plan on the Cats ending the year on a 6 game winning streak through the NCAA tournament...:D

What's the deal with the kid with no name on his jersey?

I heard they use his jersey as a spare if needed. Not sure why they don't just have a couple extras for every player...not like they can't afford it lol. Also not 100 % sure if that's true.

Who doesn't have a name on their jersey?

It was a must win game. Can't you see how happy UK fans are now? Its like were in the final 4! No its really because we just got embaressed twice and couldn't afford a 3rd straight. I was assuming Lofton was going to go. I heard a lot of speculation he would go. Again this kid HATES UK. He probably would have played if the med staff wouldn't have held him back. Sorry guys, I don't get slap happy winning against a team without maybe the SEC player of the year. You all do your thing though.

I wish I was as optimistic as you coach! I don't believe we have the talent to win the big dance.

You say that you were assuming Lofton was going to play, but in the prediction thread I asked if you felt the same way if Lofton doesn't play, and you said you did.

BTW, who's getting slap happy?

That was confusion. A lot of miss information on other boards saying he was going to play. The problem was he wanted to go and he was saying it. But the coach/med staff just said no. Bottom line is UK/UT will go at it again and hopefully Lofton is healthy. If we beat them with the possible SEC player of the year in the lineup. That is a solid win. So this is to be continued. I just can't validate this win without him.

If Tennessee wins the next game... That still won't mean that they would've won today... That game's at Tennessee, so that'll be an obstacle not named Lofton to overcome.

From what im reading now there is already speculation he won't be ready to go for the game in Knoxville either. But im not believing anything until I see it now.
