In 2020 the Devils played for a State Championship. In 2024 they beat South and played in the Semi Finals, losing to the clear State Champ, BG.

Not sure what the expectation is but Owensboro didn’t win a title with Tut & Hall, or one with Miller & Smith… not sure why they would win one with Hampton.

With the talent O had in 2020 with Wimsatt, Gough, Carbon etc that team was heavily talented and beat one of Frederick Douglass’s more talented squads. Anything other than a ring that year was a failed season imo. I wanted a change then… There’s been years where the talent at O was good enough to win state. But once O plays a team with equal talent. They tend to fall short more times than they overcome. I’m starting to wonder if it’s just the talent that’s been carrying the coaching staff at O… At the middle school level O is almost unstoppable every year. Get to high school and the best we can hope for is semi’s every year. Gets old after a while. Just don’t think this coaching staff has what it takes to get us over that hump.

That’s apples to oranges with today’s 6 class system. BG wasn’t winning titles or beating Owensboro when Miller and Smith played either. But look at them now…

Evidently a couple fumbles and INT's.

I don’t think there is anything wrong at OHS!!  They have good coaches and good talent!!

From my standpoint on the game last night, they need to go to their horse and run Hampton more. They have injuries on the line and trying to get the other Hampton brother and kimball acclimated to playing the line. Delacey was getting pushed out of the pocket all night or was getting sacked. The other thing they need to do is clean up the penalties. I would like to see how many they had. It seems like every time Hampton scores on a long Td run, there is a holding. Numerous games this has happened. I think I counted at least 5 holding calls. This is possibly due to the new lineman.

I think Ohs will be fine come playoffs, but the penalties have got to be less.

Could it be time for a change on Frederica Street?

Good discussion on this thread.  I will warn O fans that making a change doesn't always equal making a positive change.  Owensboro has had some terrific teams and players in the last 10 years.  They are always considered at or near the top (until this thread - thanks @Brown - HA!) of the rankings.  They should have beaten Highlands in the 2014 4A State Championship game.  Had some other chances in some other years and just haven't been fortunate.

I think the schemes O runs offensively except for the rebuilding 2017 season are pretty good.  It just seems in some clutch moments of the game innovative play calls aren't used.  For example, last season's 5A Semi-Final at BG, O brought in a solid team that has just waxed South Warren and Atherton.  They meet BG and offensively they were stagnate right out of the gate.  Now BG had something to do with that obviously, but why not try Hampton in the Wildcat for a few plays to see how that goes.  At that stage, BG has seen all your film and will be pretty prepared for what's already come, especially already playing you Week 2.

I will also say it is easy to armchair QB.  I personally think Coach Fallin has done a good job at Owensboro.

As @Devils Fan said, it just gets old not being able to take the next step.  I certainly get that, and I know the Owensboro coaching staff feels that too.  I will just caution careful what you wish for.  But everyone has a timeline.

You've got a good memory - that was 2022.

To be fair, and if I remember correctly, didn't Owensboro drop two wide-open TD-to-be passes in that game? I ask that because it sounds like the play call was there, but the player execution was not.
