Raceland 29 Newport Central Catholic 7

Featured Replies

NCC played hard.  They will win games and be a hard out in the playoffs.  Good luck to them going forward.

Raceland was their own worst enemy at times, that has to be cleaned up if they want to go deep in the playoffs.  But, a win is always good.

The 2nd half was all Rams.

Raceland scores on 3 of 4 possessions in the 2nd half.

New Cath fumbled a kickoff return and punt return in the 2nd half. They were scrapping to stay in it, but the 4 turnovers were the dagger in the heart for the Breds.

I agree, the battle of the two coach killers:

Raceland with 100 penalties and

NCC with four turnovers.

Both teams have some things to clean up.

Raceland with 287 total yards and 16 first downs. 11 penalties for 85 yards.

New Cath with 64 total yards and 5 first downs. 3 penalties for 15 yards. 4 fumbles, 2 on kick returns, 2 in the red zone.

I guess we can be positive

Raceland didn't turn the ball over and

NCC didn't kill themselves with penalties.

I was impressed with Raceland but they are one dimensional. They pass enough to try and keep things honest but it is very shaky looking when they throw the ball. Strong at the line of scrimmage. I like Raceland's Stiltner running the ball. Very good feet, keeps his feet moving and makes nice cuts.

I thought this would be closer. Raceland clearly proved they are the better team after halftime. I thought that they were clearly more of the aggressive team as the game went on too.

New Cath couldn't find anything on offense that they could build off of. From what I saw, I would have liked NCC to throw the ball a little more and see if that created more space for the running game.

I feel like running the ball is 1A football for the most part.

I was impressed with Raceland tonight, they could win the state championship.

For NCC, on to Newport.

I would like all these good 1A teams to throw the ball a little more.

People see four receivers and one back and often say Raceland is a passing team.  I have said for years, "Raceland is not a passing team, their pitches are just a little further".

Rarely has Raceland been a true passing team.  And, with Salmons as the HC/OC, he is a run first guy.

But, no one will listen and still say Raceland is a passing team.

You can't turn the ball over 4 times and expect to beat any team.  NCC never made adjustments to Racelands short passes.  Good time for NCC bye week to work on basics or it will be a short season come playoff time.  NCC needs to build confidence and get back on track come district time.  You can't spend too much time on fundamentals.
