North Looks To Break South’s Stranglehold In Oldham County's ‘Civil War’

North Oldham has been trending the same direction as its namesake in the Class 4A rankings through three weeks, inching their way from preseason #10 to #8 to their current location at #7. The Mustangs’ offense is building a head of steam, averaging 54 points and 500 yards over the last two Fridays. 

That's where the good news ends for North entering this week's matchup in Crestwood, as South Oldham has owned the rivalry of late. 

The Dragons have won nine straight, all by at least two scores and most in blowout fashion. South took one on the chin in Week 1 against one of the top teams in Ohio's Division II, but have rebounded to win two in a row behind sturdy defensive efforts. But are they sturdy enough to tame the wild horses? 

The hurdle North Oldham faces this week isn't necessarily one you can touch, but rather one that exists between the ears. The physical tools are there. The question is, with nearly a decade under the boot of their winged neighbors to the south, do they have the mental fortitude to match?

Game will come down to one thing—Can the Dragons defense slow down the high powered Mustang offense? Dragons secondary will be severely tested. Should be a fun night in Crestwood!! 

We will see if the North OL can uphold the South DL. This should be a great matchup. The fact that North hasn't won in 9 years leads me to believe it is just as much a mental hurdle as it is physical. 

I do know the Dragons are nursing a few injuries that could impact the outcome of the game. Regardless it should be fun night.

North's o-line played well last week against Tates Creek. The Mustangs more or less did what they pleased offensively as a result. I'll be catching my first glimpse of South this season, but they've been tough in the trenches when I've seen them over the years. Should be a great battle to watch.

That was impressive. North's quarterback isn't the most polished, but he makes things happen. 

South answers with a long TD drive but the PAT failed. North leads 7-6. North returns kickoff to midfield with 1 minute left in the half. 

South 13-7
