Patriots 16 Bengals 10

Final. A sad day and weekend for football! The Pats have their first 100 yard rusher for the first time in 19 games. That tells you all you need to know about the this. The offense has to improve as well. Next up KC!

Part of the reason for the 100 yard rusher is how had the offense performed. Which to me this game is 100% on the offense. Zero reason why you should only score 10 points. As usual the Bengals struggle early in the year being able to scheme things open.  While the opposing team does a good job at scheming things. The Patriots don’t have much talent on offense at all, but they were able to scheme guys open on passes. Then a great run scheme especially at the end pinning the Bengals inside and leaving the Patriots RB one on one with a CB. Bengals coaches do well when they have plenty of film on teams, but anytime they face new coordinators or coaches early in the year they usually struggle knowing what to do. They are more reactive whether than attacking.

I want some media heat on Taylor. I want hard questions about when are you going to change. It is not a debate. His pre-season plan does not work for his team.

Huge win for New England after the previous season they had. On another note, my expectations wouldn’t be high for the Bengals after today. The main issues of concern for me are:

The defense picked back up from where it left off to end last season, continuing to treat the start of the regular season as preseason isn’t helping, and Zac Taylor, which also relates to the preseason.

Next week could be very ugly.

Not sure if it scheme or if it is Burrow. I feel like sometimes. Burrow looks too much for the big play. Not getting even one first down on that last drive was terrible.

The wide receiver corps was worthless today beyond Chase.

Health will be the key. That and Burton making up his mind to become a professional football player.

The other thing is every turnover is worth 7 points on the scoreboard. It is rare that any team wins a game in the NFL when they lose the turnover battle by 2. As bad as it looked, that was the difference in the game today. Jimmy Johnson said the number one factor in winning a football game is winning the turnover battle.

It felt to me like New England clearly won at the line of scrimmage too.

Both sides of the ball.

Again, yes, agree with you about heat on Taylor AND there needs to be some heat on Cappa, he was terrible last year and played worse than that today, got beat a BUNCH of snaps on pass plays and run plays, doesn’t leave much if you’re an O lineman, surely one of those other guys could do better!!

Speaking of that, one of my Facebook Friends posted the following:

So…. How many years are we going to do this?  Zach Taylor tells us that reps in practice are just as good pre season play.  WRONG.
Secondary is weak.
D-line gets pushed around.
O-line gives Burrow enough time to throw 3-5 yard passes.
Arm tackles all day long.
They made Stevenson look like Earl Campbell in his prime.
They just lost to a team that won 4 games last year and lost a legendary head coach.
Finally, they were an 8 point favorite as of last night.
Embarrassing start yet again.
This is a coaching problem and a drafting problem and a free agent problem.
The Bengals should have won this game 30-10.

Thinking back on the game - the play of the game was Hudson's fumble. If he just secures the ball, that is a Bengals TD and the whole game from that point on changes.

Possibly. I know on the last drive he tried to check it down two times. Which I agree the other WRs didn’t do much at all. However, Patriots literally have no one at WR yet we’re able to scheme guys open. Bengals especially early every season looks like they don’t know how to attack the defense and accepts what the defense is allowing or not allowing them. As the year goes on the Bengals do a better job, but it just seems like when they don’t have much film they are afraid to attack and reactive to things. Which seems to be an issue every year early, and this year they don’t have the excuse of Burrow not having a training camp to be ready.

Agreed that was a huge change. Patriots ended up scoring after that too.

The Bengals trivia question today at the game did the dreaded jinx to the team. The question was how many fumbles did the Bengals lose last year, which was the least in the NFL. The answer was two and sure enough the Bengals lose two fumbles today shortly after that question.

So much so I think the Bengals win the game.  Either way, my concern level is high.
