Atherton at Kentucky Country Day Predictions/Updates

This Friday Atherton travels to KCD for a huge matchup of two teams that had a great year last year! I will be attending this one live and very excited for it. Last season these two opened the season against each other with KCD coming out with the 31 to 20 win giving Atherton their only regular season loss of the year as they won 10 in a row after the opening night loss ending the season 11 and 2 with a third round playoff loss to Owensboro. KCD finished the season 11 and 3 with their season ending in the class A semifinals of the playoffs to Raceland.I am expecting Huge things from Atherton this year as they return 7 starters on offense and 7 starters on defense. The ground game for Atherton will be their strength and lead by RB Michael Curry who had a huge season last year. Atherton had the number 2 scoring defense in 5A last season and was very tough to score on. KCD quite honestly losses a lot and in maybe a little bit of a rebuild.They only 2 starters on offense and 4 on Defense. I believe Atherton turns the table here and gets the season started off in a big way. I think they win this one easily.

If Atherton is the team many people suspect they can be this year, they should roll. The Ravens return a lot from an 11 win team and they're facing a 1A school with three seniors on the roster.

I'm looking forward to heading out to this game tonight. I had a good conversation with KCD coach Matt Jones and I'm gonna meet him tonight and he is going to show me around the facilities etc. Hoping for a good ballgame!

Jones has done a great job at KCD. I think he maybe picked up his 100th career victory last year. For a program that was a doormat for many years, often not even able to field a team, they are now a legitimate top 5-10 team in Class 1A every year.

Just met coach Jones and first off I want to say what a first class guy. He took me on a tour of the facilities and wow so impressive. They just put 4.5 million dollars into the athletic program. The locker room, weight room, offices, gym, basketball locker room all just very top notch! Amazing what he has done for Kentucky Country Day a school that almost lost their football before he got there!

TD for RB Michael Curry for Atherton and with the XP they lead 7 to 0 with 6 minutes to go in the first. I'm very impressed with their size and athleticism.

End of first quarter 7 Atherton Kentucky Country Day 0. KCD having a hard time moving the ball at all. Atherton is moving it but then makes mistakes that halt their drives.

About a 60 yard TD run for Atherton RB Michael Curry and then XP was blocked. 8:58 to go in the half Atherton leads 13 to 0. Michael Curry is a good one he is very quick.

Good drive for KCD at end of half but it ends with no points. They got it down to the Atherton 6 yard line and ran the ball and the time expired as KCD coach was signaling for a timeout but the Bearcats did not have any. Some confusion there as they thought they could run a running play and had a time out remaining but they did not. So Clock expired and Atherton takes a 13 to 0 lead to the half.

21 yard TD pass for Atherton from Quashawn Thompson to Collin Haysley and Xtra point is good. Atherton leads 20 to 0 with 21 seconds to go in third quarter.
