R7 vs. R10 immediately catches the eye. Strong possibility of a Sacred Heart/GRC rematch.

Bottom half is loaded, in general. The top five teams in the current state rankings - SH, Cooper, GRC, Pikeville, Cov. HC - all reside in bottom half regions.

Both basketball tournaments will be held inside Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center in Lexington, with the 63rd installment of the Girls’ Sweet 16® taking place March 13-16 and the 106th Boys’ Sweet 16® scheduled one week later on March 20-23.

Here is how it would look if every favorite (my opinion, to be clear) comes out of their region:

*  Owsley County vs Franklin-Simpson

*  Ashland Blazer (Russell great shot as well) vs McCracken County (they are VERY capable)

*  Simon Kenton vs Butler (not nearly as bullish on them as some others)

*  Franklin County vs Corbin (a great first round game)

*  Sacred Heart vs GRC (not too shabby, huh?)

*  Pikeville vs Bethlehem

*  Danville Christian vs Cooper

*  Henderson County vs Owensboro Catholic

 

I disagree with @LCDAWGS19, I'm not even sure I like Butler to beat Simon Kenton (or Anderson County), but I think the winner of Ashland / Russell vs McCracken County is the clear favorite to come out of the top.  Franklin County vs Corbin is a great game, and the winner of that vs SK / Anderson County vs Butler will provide a nice test to the FS vs 16th / McCracken County winner.

The bottom is loaded, for sure, but hard to not to see a Sacred Heart vs Cooper state Final 4 game coming to fruition.  

A McCracken County vs Corbin and Sacred Heart vs Cooper final four would be a great representation of the state's depth.  

Side-note:  McCracken County's Claire Johnson should be Miss Basketball, so her in the finals vs Sacred Heart would be a great story.

Will be interesting to see Anderson play a good team away from home.  Anderson got beat by 17 at Simon Kenton.   DCA is a really good team and they have one of the best post players in the state.  Their guards are probably below average so will be interesting to see what they do in region.  Their best wins of the season are probably West Jessamine or Wayne County. 

I would say that Cooper is head and shoulders above the rest. Holy Cross has been playing well recently and hopefully will have a nice run in regionals.  The game Wednesday against Simon Kenton may give us a better idea of how good the Indians are right now.

I'd say Grant County and Spencer County will have something to say about the 8th.  Grant and SK look to be on a brink of a 3rd game, and possibly a 4th if all goes like last year.  SK took the first game at the Billy Hicks classic for the Championship.  Grant won the all important seed game for districts, and now has the 1 seed with a bye into the 32nd district championship game.  Spencer played Anderson in a gutty 37-31 ballgame.  So IMO I think these 4 teams have an equal chance to take the 8th.  Grant travels to Anderson on the 17th so that will be a huge matchup right before districts.

It's all about who will show up come regionals.
