It was a terrible loss and one of those nights where Wayne was having their way the 1st half with a 12 point lead at half then someone must have sneaked and put a lid on their basket in the 3rd quarter. We scored a total of 2 points in that quarter and that kid you talked about is averaging in the 30s a game. It was not that we played bad defense on him , but when a shooter is taking shots you really want them to take and knocking them down, not a whole lot you can say or do. We did have a chance to win it at the end of regulation with free throws but end up tied. another chance to win at last shot of first overtime and as the whole second half went the shot clanged off the rim.  we did beat a couple of good Tennessee teams so hopefully we never shoot like that again.

Somerset has separated from the pack at this point in the season. It’s I don’t think there’s any argument that they’re the best team right now.

Boyle lost to Lexington Catholic last night 96-37. They are now 3-9 and have lost by 27, 38 & 59 points. They don’t yet have a quality win and I believe they were picked top 2-3 pre-season. Very surprising, to say the least.

So I cover both the 9th and the 12th. In the 9th, the third best team in the region is Cooper. They have a ton of talent and athleticism, a decent number of football players on the basketball team, the football team made it to the state championship, have dealt with an inconsistent roster and they were thought to be an outside contender but certainly not the very top of the heap. Sound like any other team you know? Where Cooper has been able to count on various different players to step up and fill gaps, Boyle hasn't seen that on a consistent basis and certainly hasn't risen to meet the level of their competition.

I still hold out the belief that Boyle could have an absolutely miserable regular season then come out and win the district tournament. They just have too much ability to discount them and I also have to believe Coach Webb is capable of turning that ability into results. Tougher task than initially thought though.

I tend to agree with you, but have most of Cooper's players been with the program for some time? Boyle has had an influx of basketball transfers the last couple of years so not only are they starting late because of football success, they've also not played a ton of basketball together at all.

Boyle is not very good! I think Lincoln County and DCA come out of the 45th District this year. It also wouldn't surprise me if Danville beat Boyle this year.

Quadruple Coverage just had this posted on his Facebook page so things seem to be getting worse instead of better at Boyle.

Said in summer ball(I know you can't trust summer ball) they had no size other than the couple of kids on the bench that were maybe freshman. They looked like they were playing pickup ball--no plays, no cohesiveness, nothing. And yes they may pick it up by post season but I don't think so, saw em last week and to me they don't have a floor leader. I will see them play again tomorrow--I will update then. Still say region comes down to DCA and Somerset

I think they miss Jakei Tarter tremendously. He was an excellent player but I think their entire roster fed off his emotion and energy. Guys like that are hard to replace.

Yes, I disagreed with you previously. You were correct and I was not. Their rotation lacks size, structure and chemistry. I expected different rotations and didn’t anticipate the chemistry issues given that there were I believe only two new players being introduced to the system and team. And Tarter did bring a level of intensity that is hard to replace and frankly is unmatched by just about any player anywhere. But that doesn’t explain all of the issues cited.

 

I’m not as confident as you that it will come down to those two teams, but it also wouldn’t surprise me. I do think Somerset would be my pick at this point, but there’s so little margin for error this year.

#1 and #2 currently in the BGP weekly rankings and RPI Danville Christian Academy and Somerset have both advanced to the finals tomorrow night.  Contrasting styles collide.  Quick turnaround for the Jumpers, but should be a good one @ Burgin.  If I find out a live link, I’ll post!

Better get there to watch the girls game if you want a seat. I don't think Burgin has cameras in there gym so no live coverage. I hope Somerset wins but I think DCA pulls it out.

I agree, I don't think there is live streaming @ Burgin.  I would imagine Danville girls fans will clear after the game to provide some availability.  Definitely,  will be a "tall" task for Jumpers with the harder road, travel and the back to back.  The Ads pushed the Jumpers pretty hard in the 1st half last night, but they were able to get some rest in the 4th Q.
