Most concerning thing about this game was the defense giving up over 400 yards.

Most yards the Steelers offense has had all season.

Hard for me to see the Bengals scoring more than 16 points the rest of the way this year in any of their games.

Defense hasn’t been good this year. However, the offense has done nothing all season really to help them out.

ALL SEASON?????  I’d have to disagree with you on that FC

Plus, I’ve always taken the approach, especially against P-burg’s offense, if the D says they were on the field too much get a 3 and out yourself and get off the field, quit giving up 7-8 minute drives, especially against an offense like Pitt has, first 400 yard game in 59 games, really kind of embarrassing

His last sack he was unblocked. No one there at all. Mcpapa could have gotten the sack there.

Hardy har har.

Clock operator was pretty slick just before the 2-minute warning by not starting the clock when the onside kick was advanced.   The mismanagement got corrected, though.

Yes the offense has been bad basically all season. The 49ers and Cardinals were good, other than that the offense has struggled very much and quickly off the field putting the defense right back out there. Neither has been good, and the defense definitely has been disappointing. However, the offense has been pretty bad all year besides basically two gaames. The defense in this game did give up a lot of yards, however still only gave up 16 points. If you give up just 16 points, you should win.

The link below to an article ranking the 32 offenses in the NFL. The article ranks them through this past weekends games from worst to first. It also gives you their ranking from the previous week. You will see the Bengals are ranked #14 which is in the upper half and was actually ranked #10 going into last weeks game in which Burrow got hurt.

The post above shows a article ranking all of the offenses in the league.

This link posted here ranks all of the defenses in the league. The Bengals defense after this past weekends games is ranked #30 in the league. Here is the link with the rankings.

What exactly does that article rank them on? Any data to back up their ranking? I’m truly asking because I’m not familiar with that site. Or are they just ranking based off opinion and how the Bengals offense should be? With that said you definitely are the first person I know this year that apparently doesn’t think the offense has been bad this year.

Going into the Thursday night game before Burrow got hurt. The Bengals offense was ranked near the bottom and in the 20s in both scoring offense and total yards. Bengals offense ranked in the 20s for their down percentage. Only 7 teams have punted the ball more than the Bengals this season. All while keeping in mind the Bengals defense has created the 3rd most turnovers in the NFL given the offense more chances to get the ball back to score and yet the offense still couldn’t score. Which obviously Burrow’s calf was a big issue to start the season, and is part of. However, that all goes back to the offense hasn’t done much to help the defense either. Both have been bad this year.

The Bengals were actually 14 ranked offense according to total offense on ESPN before the Ravens and Steelers game. They are still the 19th ranked team in just passing but they are 27th currently overall that is due to them being ranked dead last (32nd) in rushing. Based on pure stats according to ESPN the defense overall is ranked 31st out of 32 teams only the Chargers defense is below the Bengals in total defense.

The bengals offense was ranked 24th in total offense the day before the Bengals played the Ravens, not 14th.

I'm not exactly sure why we are discussing here. I have said I agree the defense has been bad this year, so I'm not sure why you post defensive stats, because I agree with you on that. I’m simply saying the offense hasn’t done much to help the defense either. The Bengals offense consistently putting the defense back on the field. Which is why the Bengals are one of the league leaders in having to punt this year. Both the offense and defense has been bad. You would think if a a defense created the third most turnovers in the league. That the offense would be able to score more points. Yet the bengals offense has also been one of the worst in points scored this year too.

It’s simple the offense has sucked and doesn’t score much and consistently makes the defense go back on the field. The defense has also sucked and has given up big plays all year, and hasn’t stopped anyone unless they create a turnover. Both have been bad.

You have to admit that the offenses troubles were mainly due to Burrow playing on one leg the first 4 weeks. I thought he was back to 100% after they bye week. Those 3 games Burrow vs. San Fran 28/32 for 283 yards 3 TD's 0 Int. with a QB Rating of 134.8 and a QBR of 91.1. In the Bills game he was 31/44 for 348 yards with 2 TD's ) int. with a QB Rating of 108.9 and a QBR of 81.7. Next up vs. the Texans he was 27/40 for 347 yards with 2 TD's (with 2 bad Interceptions) with a QB Rating of 90.3 and a QBR of 34.8.

So in the 3 out of 10 games he played healthy his numbers were: 86/116 over 74% completion % for a total of 978 yards and an average of 326 yards per game. His QB Rating for those 3 games was 111.3 and his average QBR was 69.2. I thought after the bye week Joe Burrow looked as good as any quarterback in the league. In those 3 games he was 100% healthy they averaged over 27 points per game.

The defense in the 5 games since the bye week were: In the San Fransico game they gave up 460 total yards (it was masked by the 3 49ers turnovers 2 of which were in the redzone). They gave up 317 yards vs. the Bills (not bad) A big reason for the lower number was due to the offense keeping the ball for 36:38 to only 23:22 for the Bills. In the Texans game they allowed 544 total yards. In the Ravens game they allowed 405 yards. In the Steelers game Sunday they allowed 421. The defense in these 5 games since the bye week the defense has averaged allowing 429.3 yards per game.

I think we can maybe agree with some of the play calling with the offense. I think they put to much on Burrow's shoulders especially when he wasn't 100% I don't think they have used Mixon enough especially in the first half Sunday vs. the Steelers.

No doubt Burrow injury played a big part in the offensive struggles. Which has zero to do with what we been discussing. Since that still goes back to the offense not doing much to help the defense, no matter what the reason.

You referenced the Bills and 49er games. Those are two of the best offenses in the league and the defense held them to 18 and 17 points. Showing my point, because in those games the offense did play better. Which in turn also made the defense do better and look similar to previous years and holding down top offenses. Then the Texans game you mentioned the Bengals offense scored a touchdown the first drive. Then the offense did nothing the next 6 possession, with 4 of those 6 possessions being three and outs.  Kept putting the defense right back on the field, against a hot offense. Yeah the final stats won’t show it, but the offense wasn’t good that game either and neither was Burrow with his two costly 4th quarter interceptions. The offense was only going to score 17 points that game, before the defense got an interception with 3 minutes left and returned it back to the 4 yard line. Then even with this Steelers game, yes they gave up a lot of yards and still held them to 16 points. If you only give up 16 points, you should win. Yet the offense did nothing.

So once again yes the defense has been bad this year, and the offense for the most part hasn’t done much to help them out and has been bad too. Just a bad year on both sides of the ball.
