Notre Dame 48 USC 20

I’m not surprised with this much, maybe somewhat by the margin. A USC loss was inevitable in my opinion, especially with how close Colorado played them. I believe USC loses at least another, maybe two more. Lincoln Riley has to learn that defense isn’t optional to be a legitimate contender. Nice win for Notre Dame though, I didn’t think USC would leave South Bend winning tonight.

The Irish defense was on tonight. They picked off Caleb Williams three times in the first half and forced five turnovers all together. Williams was under constant duress and sacked five times. Good game plan by Freeman and Golden, and well executed by the team.

This kind of effort week to week would be nice.

My son-in-law and grandson were in the student section for this one. I got a video from the grandson when they stormed the field. That's going to be a great memory.

As far as the game. Caleb Williams is not Larmar Jackson or Bryce Young. ND made him look awfully ordinary.

Agreed. I saw an article online the day before the game going as far as saying that Williams may be better than Mahomes, Burrow, and Herbert, which is a huge stretch. Williams will be drafted in the first round likely still but I have never noticed much upside to him in terms of playing in the NFL.

He's said he won't go to the NFL this year unless he can go to one of his hand picked teams, none of which are expected to have a top 3 pick in the draft.

I liked Notre Dame's strategy of a constant pass rush.  Williams had no idea what to do during the game and it basically crushed his Heisman hopes.  If the Irish can win out, they can still make a NY6 bowl, which would be great.

If Notre Dame wins their remaining games, I don’t see how they don’t. I don’t think anyone can legitimately argue that they didn’t have one of the toughest schedules in all of college football this year. Imagine if they still played Michigan this season too.
