Wildcats Try Maintain Clean Slate In The 'Swamp'

Records: FS (7-0) | Greenwood (5-2)

BGP Rankings: FS (#7 in 3A) | Greenwood (#9 in 5A)

Week  Results: Both had a bye week

Series History: Franklin-Simpson leads 9-8 dating back to 1998

Teaser Preview: The Purples and Spartans aren't the only show in Bowling Green this week. Fifteen minutes away, undefeated Franklin-Simpson trudges into the 'Swamp' for some gator wrestling in a match-up of top ten teams.

The Wildcats will try to dig their claws into all-purpose back Tel Tel Long, the leading rusher, receiver, and scorer for the Gators. Linebacker Gray Price paces the Greenwood defense in tackles and has played a hand in four turnovers.

Franklin-Simpson counters with a three headed rushing attack of Colin Anderson, Gavin Dickerson, and Blake McPherson. Tytus Brown serves as their defensive disruptor, leading 3A in sacks with 10, and forcing four fumbles.

It's pretty common knowledge what Franklin-Simpson likes to do offensively, but running into the teeth of the Gators' defense has proven troublesome for the opposition this year. Greenwood allows around 70 yards rushing per game.

This is where FS undefeated season ends. Give me the Gators 35-14.

Greenwood’s strength is their ability to defend the run. I see them stopping FS running game and winning.

This series for FS has been probably the hardest one to predict in recent memory. Whenever I think it will be a blowout either way, it’s usually a close game and whenever it looks like it will be close, it becomes a blowout. Early in the season I was pretty confident this would be a comfortable win for Greenwood but now I think it is a toss-up. If I were impartial I might pick the Gators but I think FS may pull out a close one, especially if they continue to force as many turnovers as they have.

A look ahead spot for the Wildcats with a big district championship that seems to be shaping up next week against Hart County, could they lose focus on this non district game? The only question I have from the Gators perspective is how motivated can HC William Howard get his guys.

FS power run game vs. a stout GW run defense, intriguing matchup, the Gators have took the last 3, I look for the Wildcats to get back on track.

FS 27 GW 21

Greenwood to receive

Gators facing 4th and goal at the FS 14 on the opening drive.

QB scrambles and finds TelTel Long for the 14 yard TD. Greenwood 7-0 at 4:16 in first.

FS drove into Greenwood territory but a good tackle from behind forced a fumble and Greenwood returned it to the FS 32.

Long with a 4 yard TD run and Greenwood converts the turnover by FS into a 14-0 lead. 9:05 in second.

FS driving at the Gator 20 and fumble a double handoff on a play that looked awful from the beginning. Gators recover at their own 24.
FS getting beat at their own game so far.

Halftime Greenwood leads 14-0.

FS had two possessions in the first half not counting a kneel down with 2 seconds to go. Fumbled both times in Greenwood territory. Wildcats moving the ball but can’t hold on to it. Gators driving the ball methodically and converted a couple of long down and distance situations on their first drive.

FS is playing in a homecoming game for the fourth game in a row. FS’s first, then at Butler County, at Glasgow and now at Greenwood. That must be some kind of record. The streak will end next week at home.

FS starts the second half with a drive ending with a 15 yard TD pass from Mathias Dickerson to I think it was Hatcher Link. Was a 4th and 5 play. Greenwood 14-7 with 7:48 in third.
